Anyone here kitesurfs down there. I was around Port Aransas about 2 weeks ago on the bay side and it was ok but not so clean. I live in San Antonio and trying to head down to Corpus next Saturday for some progression clinic or just to ride.

www.kitebeaches.com
Very flat water in the sound sides...ok waves in the ocean.

Check out Wildcat Park in Portland TX for some flat water and other people to ride with. There are some oyster shells near shore to watch out for but the rest is mostly sand. Everyone will show up around 5:00 on weekdays and whenever it is blowing on the weekend. It is one of the windiest spots during the normal S or SE summertime winds. Packery Channel on the island has super flat water but the wind can be a bit gusty and there are some oyster reefs to watch out for. Lola also gets some of the strongest SE winds and has super flat water with a seagrass/mud bottom and some oyster shells.

www.kiteboarding.com is the shop that makes it's home at Wildcat.
Jeff Howard owns the shop and has a number of young guys who teach.
The shop is also called ProKiteSurf.
Ryan Riccatelli (The Kiteboarder magazine) and his crew teach at Packery Channel across town.

Thanks for the replies I checked out wildpark and it was a fun time. I use windfinder to check on the wind and although some weekends I see 8-10mph winds some people and forums mention that in the afternoon a "thermal" kicks in and the wind goes up . Is that always the case during this time ? It would suck to drive 2 1/2 hours and then have no wind

You can go there and the wind just will not cooperate but the thermals very, very often kick in at
3-8PM and it's on.
There is lots of inland farmland full of cotton and black dirt which help heat things up for that thermal pull off the gulf but unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that it will work out every day.
It is one of the most consistently windy places in the country.
I suggest you call the shop and see what they think before you run down or for sure look at several wind forecasts, then you gotta just throw the dice!

Got snowed today. Wind hadn't picked up by 4:00 so I got busy doing some errands and other crap. Wind picked up around 6:00 and blew about 13-20 or so. Not great but better than running errands. Maybe tomorrow.
