How important is sheeting out in a kiteloop?

Postby bavdrftr318 » Sat Jul 10, 2010 5:11 pm

I tried my first big kite loop the other day and ate shit really hard. Of course I was on my friends 7m waroo which appeared to be on 27m lines haha. The thing I'm curious of is how important it is to sheet out fully when the kite is coming back up?

Also is it easier to kiteloop on shorter lines? Say 20m lines?

you should sheet out some when looping the kite, and once on its way up again then sheet in so it catches you again for a smooth landing

It is very important to sheet out and then sheet back in. Toby's spot on, soft landings on 30-40 jumps is a must!

Short lines are sick on loops. You won't fly as high, but the pull of the kite is much more violent and the kite will come up faster--still sheet out and in though.

I would get your loops down on longer lines 24-27m before stepping in the short line zone. There will probably be some other people saying just go short :argue: but my reason is this: Your kiteloops with short lines causes the kite to fly deeper in the window (ie power zone) so you will get one hell of a ride.

If you insist on doing them with short lines, do it on a 9m or even a 12m kite.

Good luck and have fun.

Yeah. :-?

The whole point of a "kiteloop" is that it is a violent, high adrenalin, high impact maneuver. You will subsequently probably "eat shit" on a regular basis when learning big kiteloops.

Sheeting out is kind of contrary to achieving the goal.

Sheeting out is what pussies do.

Remain sheeted in, or better still do the loop unhooked.

Improve your leg strength, and land with your board pointing further downwind.

Short lines make it easier to get above the kite when you're fully committed.

No guts, no glory!

Alternatively, take your board off, point your cute little toesies, wiggle your hips and flutter your eye lashes at the passing boys.

Once you nail the kiteloop, then you can start sheeting further in, to give it more power. But not before.

unhooked kiteloops are too easy! then the kite turns soooo fast...everyone can land it...hooked is the real stuff, since you cannot let go!

Enjoy your day! :bye:

If you want to try a hooked-in Loop you definitely want to be sheeted-in all of the way (assuming your kite is tuned properly) so your kite accelerates through the loop... and do not sheet-out, at any point... unless of course you want to kook-out and just dunk into the water without speed when you land.
Actually... its easier to loop un-hooked ( or fully powered, like being sheeted all the way in).

Sheeting out at the end of the loop will stop the kite from stalling/slowing........meaning it will get back to the top of the loop quicker and reduce the chance of you getting spanked.

We're talking sheeting out here, not letting go of the bar or giving it max depower.
