Sheeting methods while boosting

Postby bavdrftr318 » Mon Aug 02, 2010 3:00 pm

I was just curious the technique you guys use while boosting. With my old Naish cults I found the best way to get really high was to come in lit up with alot of speed, send the kite hard and sheet out while the kite was flying across the wind window (speeds the kite up when sheeted out) then pull in when I was ready to get ripped off the water.

Now with my new RPMs I feel as if this technique doesn't work as well. When I sheet out while it is going across the wind window it doesn't seem like the kites are nearly as fast as my old Cults (probably due to the lower aspect nature of the kite = more drag). I get get pretty high but don't get ripped off the water as violently as I used to. I feel like either this is just the nature of the kite to not boost as well, or I have to change my technique while loading up. What do you guys think?

Hopefully you guys have some good input on this :bye:

I would say it is the kite. A C is more aggressive and explosive.

Therefore you can take your new kite out in higher winds...

So you are saying the kite simply doesn't boost as high?

My experience has been that bridled kites with pulleys never rip you
off the water like C-kites do. What you do get, however, is more range, and smoother
flying characteristics. It's a trade off...

sounds like it. but you could control it in higher winds...so then you can fly as high again with more control, since you don't have to send it as much

what do you need to do after you jump very high and slowly the kite drifts behind you but still at 12...If you start pulling it forward than you come in hot and lose some of your float. So what do you need to do to keep floating but prevent any potential backstall because the jump was very high...do you loop it or fly it side to side (say 11 to 1 and back)..any tips.

You can do it both, send the kite side to side or you can do a downloop.
Last week i was in Fuerteventura @ Sotavento where it's very gusty, had a great high jump and the gusts blew the kite a little behind me and had to do 2 downloops to get me smoothly down.

Never had something like this but it was awesome to downloop it twice :D

you can keep it at one position, and if it is too far in front, or too far behind you, you can steer it all the way to the other direction (in front steer backwards, too far behind steer forward).
The it helicopters and you will land it.

Or keep flying it around the zenith, and then before landing you bring it forward.

Don't think you guys are understanding the question here... I was asking about different techniques for sheeting in or out while boosting. I sheet out when the kite is flying across the window... But I feel like some people keep the bar sheeted in while loading up
