line length - wave specific

Postby kangaroo » Tue Nov 09, 2010 10:35 pm

i ride predomoninatly cross on winds

i generally use 23 or 20 metre lines

i go 20 if its onshore

i go 25 if im doing freestyle stuff on surfboard or if i get very rare cross off/cross direction

what line lengths are you using in the waves - i have experimented lots and at the moment am beginning to think 20m is best all round to keep kite fast flying around the window

too often i watch videos where the kite sits in window and drifts whilst the rider carves perfect walls

i ride in the real world - onshore mush/blown out but we do get some nice albet short walls to ride

any advice about

I fly my 7 & 9m on 17m and got to the point where I don't change them out. It took a bit of getting used to coming from 24m lines. My 12m I ride with 20m lines since this is my light wind kite I like having a little more stroke from the added length. By the way I'm no way an expert in the waves just learning to ride them. I find that shorter lines work better when your on the wave. Kite is more responsive and it helps keeping you from putting too much slack in the lines during turns.

Agreed 20 meter lines overall. I've been riding 20 or 14...have experimented with 17 meter lines, and just got a set I think is 15 that I'll try out for looping. Also interested in trying to use a bigger kite in waves on super short lines.

Oh well. we'll see...so far I think 20 meter lines are the best overall length for fast turning and not loosing too much power... :-)

Just a question...how do you shorten the lines?
There are bars like wainman or flexifoil with extensions, but if not what? Do you buy 4 new lines (about € 150-180) and you cut them?

I'm also on 20m, works great in all conditions for me, TT and waveboard, Fast and good powerstroke.
Waves with my 6m OR Rise on 20m and waveboard are very enjoyable!

With my OR bar and line setup I can choose between 20 and 23m linesetup. 20m is so much better.

Around 20m is the sweet spot if you are properly powered up. If I go shorter even 2m shorter to around 18m, I can't get the slack in the lines I sometimes like to have to make a move on the wave. <18m lined kites just keep yanking me around and off the wave.
