Slingshot RPM vs Naish Park

Postby njrider » Thu Mar 03, 2011 4:03 am

I have been looking at both these kites and was interested to hear from anyone with experience with these kites. A comparison would be better yet. I mostly freeride and would like a kite that is suited for that style. Thanks

Both kites are great in the air. The biggest negative I've heard from Park owners is the 1 pump system sucks.

Helped my mate with maintaining his naish 1-pump. Yeah it's not great. The problem was that when you opened the deflate valve, all tubes got deflated -> not good on water if your leading edge gets ripped. But thats a minor defect imo. We didn't fix it btw.

Both kites get great reviews. Its best to test them personally.

That's just it. If you get a hole the whole thing needs to come apart and the how do you isolate the problem since you can't isolate the struts or leading edge? What Einstein came up with that system?

that doesn't happen on mine...there are one way valves...though the struts will not always hold the air for a long time, the last time I just deflated the LE, my struts stayed inflated for days.

Kiteosphere: What experience do you have with the system? There are one way valves in the struts, so they isolate fine. If a strut has a leak, that strut and LE will deflate..if LE, only the LE will deflate. It is actually super easy to both isolate and fix any issues. Now that they have oriented the opening on the struts the other way, even big hands can easily get access to the connectors inside the struts.

I think the longevity of the system speaks for the quality...they've used it for 7 years or so...and it works.

OP:
I didn't answer the initial question because I still haven't gotten around to switching up with my buddy on the RPM. I think both kites look great, but when you see them side by side, there is quite a bit of difference.

In anycase, the Park is an awesome kite, all time favorite. It pretty much much does everything well, good lift, hangtime, loops well, yet it'll still sit and drift if you ride down the line. Killer wind range. Definitely a good free ride kite.

What sizes are you looking at?

I tried both kites at the same day in 18 knots.
The park was size 12, very light bar feeling, lots of depower, quick loops, seemed like a kite 10.
The RPM was size 10, heavy bar feeling, strong pull, instable, quick loops, seemed like a kite 12.
I bought the Park 12, may be the set up of the RPM was the reason I didnt like it.
I´d like to give it another try to change my mind.

give it another try, I`m sure you need it,
the 10 m RPM must has been on heaviest bar presure set up,
¿bar size?
because RPM in lightest bar presure flies and feel certainly more like
a smaller size not like a bigger

I don`t know the Park may be feels even smaller than RPM

I owned some Naish kites with Octopus system (Naish One Pump)
I agree the struts do not deflate if you deflate LE (one way valve)
but I also think Octopus suck, keep me away from Naish for sure

Haven't flown the Park.

But the RPM is really fun. 10m is the best size.

the bar should be really light, its one of its trademarks, some wakestylers don't like it being to light cause they can't tell where the kite is...

but i can tell, because the kite speaks to me :o
