I heard sad stories about the destruction of the beach in Mui Ne due to big waves.
Just found pictures on the internet, and they are shocking!
I hope the beach recovers soon, but can it???

Yes it will come back but it's difficult to tell when and how. Last year it was the other end of the beach which got devastated, this year they had a massive beach. It comes and goes. Jeff and Liz at C2Sky will still be there next year for sure!

Gotta think positive,. at least i can practice my 720 board on from the land into the water straight from Sankara's bar
But serious,... as James mentioned the sand will come back, the question is when though.
It happens every so many years, this year is pretty extreme.
Big moon, super tides and strong wind for almost a week. Its amazing how fast it goes.

Wow! Really! I've been there twice. In the same place. Wow!!! Totally another world. Does this happen in a time-period (week?) or is it a sort of one-time landslide? Hope, the situation recovers soon.

Guys,
This information is not really accurate. Mui Ne lost about 1/3 of it's beach from the eastern side. middle part and western side is intact or in fact may have more beach now.
We are doing lessons and kiting everyday. Having over 25m wide beach.

What has been reason for these big waves? Some regional tsunamis?

WOW!
looks like there must have been some big waves to get that amount of sand out of there.
hope it will get back soon enough.

This ones pretty much open to debate. The good news is the sand will come back... my guess would be in a few months time when monsoon winds kick in from the south west pushing the sand back up the beach. The season was a late starter this year and we could see the winds continue well into May. If this does happen then the erosion at the East end of the beach will continue as the sand is pushed down towards the west end of Mui Ne. This is a cyclic event which happens every year.
Down at the Sailing Club (Mia Resort) we suffered the same affect for over four years. It sucks and my deepest sympathy goes out to guys further up the beach. Some would say the main catalyst for the erosion was the retaining wall built to support the road between Mui Ne as we know it now and Mui Ne fishing Village proper. Also developers building too close to the high tide mark and not allowing for a 15 - 20 high tide cycle.
We have a family who own a resort next to ours who have lived on this beach for over 70 years. They built there beachfront bungalows 20m back from everybody else as they knew of the 15 year cycle. They did warn some developers about building too close. Now we are paying the price.
Things will get back to normal in the short term, long term were running out of time and we really need to look further ahead at other locations and beaches. Lets face it we have plenty to choose from.
