Dynabar: feeling unhooked

Postby jaystore » Sat Apr 16, 2011 6:24 pm

Hi waveriders, we have done this short video to show how you could improve your sessions without the pain of going unhooked.
You will notice that bottom turns are easier and natural, the kite control bar is above shoulders, the harness doesn't move and the rider can easily turn body/head towards the coming wave.

We have a 6 pages article on kitespain.com (pages 85-90) explaining why we have done DYNABAR and what we are doing for the next season.
Have a look at the spanish version (the English is not available yet), nice on-line magazine :thumb:

Yes the bar seems quite far away from the rider.
It does not look very comfortable though with the harness right up under your armpits.

Harness position is a rider choice and Laurent likes it in that position. You can keep it low and lengthen the DYNABAR dyneema rope.
Another option is to use the DYNABAR prowave with steel rod and attach a 30-40cm dyneema leash to the hook and to the CL at the other end. This will allow you to unhook and move the hook on the side, but stay connected to the harness and keep the bar higher. I hope it's clear enough.

The Dynabar is the most fantastic bit of kit. It has completely changed my style of kiting and a feeling of freedom on the water I have never had. It was not love at first session but after two sessions I was hooked!

There has been several other good threads on this subject. If you do a search of "Dynabar" I am sure it will come up for you.

I've been using a Dynabar for several years, beginning with the first prototypes, and this is a great piece of equipment. I still have (and use) the original prototype, as well as the latest V6. I honestly don't think I will ever use a fixed hook again if I don't have to.

Thanks. I want more freedom when riding, but I don't want it around my armpits- what model do you suggest?

I think that people should be aware that this issue about the harness shown above riding up so high has nothing to do with the Dynabar. This harness position is strictly that riders personal choice - i.e. to wear the harness loose enough that it does that.

I fasten my waist harness fairly tight and prefer that it does not ride up like that - again just a personal choice.

Also the Dynabar can be used with waist, seat, or "nitrous" style harnesses depending on where you prefer your hook to be.

As for the model recommended - that's a tough question because they are all nice. I would say that out of all of my Dynabar customers it's been a 50/50 choice between the Freeride and Freewave...and also some people likeing the Freerace (rope version).

It's possible to use either model with the steel rod or with a rope. The V6 has the bolted on rods, which is nice, but the V5 works just as well.

I switch back and forth quite a bit, but to be honest I could not tell you which one I like best. I am sure there are people out there who will tell you they only like one or the other. Again all a matter of personal choice.
