My lower lip got badly chapped when I was in Tarifa the last 10 days. It's got a painful crack down the middle and is quite crust... yuck.
In any case I'm guessing this is basically sunburn on my lips. I was pretty careful to apply it to my face but didn't really think to put it on my lips. Am I crazy?
What should I do to prevent this? Are there some special projects. I was thinking about the white stuff cricket players wear. But being American I have no idea what that is.

some people are very sensitive to sun on their lips.
I know a guy, who cut a baseball cap and puts a part above his upper lip with a line and makes a knot behind his head so it holds. The only way to kite in stronger sun for him...yeah, doesn't look great, but the alternative is not kiting...
Or a helmet with a big visor...
Suns lotion does not stick to the inner lip part, that is the problem!

hahahaha, post a pic of this please.
also, just go to a regular drugstore and ask for sunscreen for your lips. its pretty common. thats what i use when skiing on glaciers in the summers, and it works great. another alternative could just be using a bandana or something. makes you look like a thug at the same time.

Ouch, that is painful...
Chapstick or Burtons lip balm , or any on that source will help and prevent it.
On the other hand you probably didn't notice but you need to hydrate more on hot / sunny spots, yes, chapped lips is your body telling you that you need to drink more water, are you thinking, how your kidneys are doing?

Any of the Zinc Oxide lip balms or even waterproof sunscreens are the best. The "clear" zinc type is good too as it uses microparticles.
I use at least SPF 30 to SPF 50 on my face, and especially my nose and lips. Aside from skin cancer, you will look way better when you get into yor 40's and 50's and don't have leathery wrinkled old man skin!

Just use your "normal" spf 50 waterproof (always take a kids version) sunscreen to the outside of your lips (the dry part), the wet part should stay inside and can't be protected by sunscreen because nothing will hold.
It's just skin, wel blooded, but still skin.

I did exactly that and it did seem to help. It's funny, suncream doesn't taste that bad actually. I just hope its not toxic.

Swallowing a package a day should be discouraged...
Normal use: not toxic.
