Firewire 6'2 versus BW Resin8 6'3 versus F-One Surf 6'2

Postby noldude » Sun Aug 28, 2011 7:47 am

I am in the market to buy a new kitesurfboard for an upcoming trip to Peru. I ride strapless 95% of the time, but am looking for a board with inserts just in case for big waves. I am 6'6 and 215lb and have been kiting since 2003. I go to a big wave destination 3X per year and ride chest -head high waves 40% of the time back home.

I am torn between the FW Pivec 6'2 which sounds like it is stronger than traditional FW boards, but not as strong as the F-One which has bamboo on both sides. I am also interested in the BW Resin8, but it is not clear if it has inserts. This is not addressed on the website at all. My understanding is that the strength is: F-One>FW>Resin8 where the 'poly-like feel' is the opposite: Resin8>FW>F-One. My understanding is that the F-One is stiff, but bomber and can hold up as well as any other kitespecific board, but does not feel as lively as the Pivec FW.

Is all of this accurate? Can anyone speak to each one of these? Thanks

Fire Wire make the F-One boards as well. Never tried the F-ones boards should have one soon bamboo helps a little with heal dents and the the likes gives it a bit more life. I've seen guys 95kg+ jump F-One boards, not pop jump and they hold up great.

The newest gen of FW boards are bombproof and as strong if not stronger than any Fone board.

If you break a new FW board...that will a first as I have not seen it yet come through the FW doors.

Also check out the 511 taj...the board is nuts. Peru would be magic for that.

Hi There,
Correct f-one boards a strong but a very stiff and have a dead feel
Resin 8- OUT of BUSINESS
Firewire-Great blend of bomber strength -shapes that work for kiting and surfing with a lively construction translating to a really High end board that will last you a very long time.
Enjoy and hope you get your hands on one soon.

If you are 6'6" then get a board much bigger than 6'2".

Im 6'5" myself. I've learned to pretty much ignore what most other people are riding and go for customs. I've had good luck with Sean Ordonez and Matt @ Kazuma. My boards are between 6'4" to 6'9", with anything else smaller feeling like it's tiny.

give a good shaper a call and go a bit bigger. You'll be glad you did.
