So... when do you say No!

Postby plummet » Thu Jul 26, 2012 9:21 pm

When do you go to the beach look at the conditions and say NO!... I've had it about 3 times this year.

Recently i was at a the beach looking at the biggest waves I would have ever kited in. They were clean and the big sets tripple head at least. wind was 35-45 cross cross off.

I was solo on a remote beach and it would have been an insane ride. But i looked at the thundering white wash, the rocks and the cliffs and decided no if i stuff up the risk of death is actually quite high.

I so i flagged it.

however had there been other kiters out i probably would have given it a lash.

I had this too. And be happy you don't go out.
Sometimes it is better to say no. It can be a feeling, maybe sent by your guardian angel...

I say no all of the time.

When the wind is kinda weak and I'm feeling tired. No.

When the wind is really gusty and my body is sore and tired. No.

Anytime, I've had a weak of great kiting and the conditions look marginal. No.

I think I've missed like 2 windy days in the last year because I was sick. Most of the time when I get sick I just kite through it (and feel better afterward too). Our windy days are not too reliable so when it's blowing you'd better be ready to ride.

I say no when my kite wants to fly upwind into outer space and I'm on a small shelf at 13,000ft., a real eye opener and new found respect for the power of thermals.

On the days when it's more about survival than kiting.

While I'm waiting on shoulder surgery because I have arthritis in both shoulders from power lifting. When it is below 50 degrees, have to wear gloves because its too cold. When its marginal and I don't feel like fighting it.
