i'm amused with kite companies that release a kite mid year and state its next years kite.

Hello!. if you release a kite in 2012 its a 2012 kite!....

i say anyone who pre- orders kites should get 20% off if the dealer doesn't have to keep them on the shelves and they are already sold before they even hit the shelves 20% should be given. i am sure that leaves a 30% profit margin which is already more then most retail stores make on items.

At a minimum 20% off. I would think if I pre-orderd 5 kites and 2 bars the retailer would make a grand off the transaction even at 25% off. A grand for about 1 hours work processing the order.

I agree with plummet.

But you have to remember that a shop has to commit to a certain number of kites in order for them to get bigger discounts from the supplier.

Per ordering is great, but if you are cutting the shops % to much its not worth them stocking the kite, as they still have all the overheads of running the shop.

So why not buy direct from the dealer? If we start going direct to dealer the shops will stop stocking as there is no point them holding the risk. The down side to us would be that discounts would be few and far between as if you wanted a specific kite they would be able to charge what they want as there would be no competition. Also no friendly shop advice, returns might be harder etc.

Just my thoughts, please feel free to pull them apart :-)

That's what forums are for!

Wish you better wind than the east coast of the UK is getting

Paul

Ok smarty pants. Can you list for us the manufacturers that offer a 50% markup on new gear.
I think you're pulling these markup numbers out of the air. Can I get your list? :remybussi:
