First, you try strapless. :D Then, your boards get bigger. Then, you try surfing. 8) Then, you get a SUP. :o Then, you put your kites away for good. :bye:

Ha haa - well put and so true :thumb:

And well chosen words from the O.P. - as it is only "fuzz" - and no real value :naughty:

I could comment this topic a lot in detail, but it would only upset a lot of people, so will let it be....

[quote="BBQFish"]Getting over the chop is seriously wearing my legs out in no time at all, if i'm able to stay on the board that is.quote]

It is suprising how much energy strapless riding takes. I remember my feet cramping up in the beginning and just altogether burning out faster. Just keep at it and all will come together. You will be super stoked. Riding waves and jumping strapless is sooooo much fun.

I'd say the fuzz is all about the fact that its harder and a little more of a challenge. Busting airs is super fun, but busting airs strapless is just so gratifying.

Used to be that strapless seemed limiting when looking at guys pull nice air transitions and big airs strapped. Loved clips of Davey Blair pulling little back loops from the flats out front and landing on the face of the wave behind him. Super cool. Things have progressed pretty far at this point and the variety of moves invovling board 180's and shoveits and just reversed landings in general has kind of flipped the whole limiting thing so that it now looks like straps limit the potential the top wave riders are developing.

I see a lot more high end video produced by the strapless contingent and its just really inspiring.

i would say that all the strapless movement is about imitation of surfing. if you are about imitation and physically disabled to paddle on to a wave, but want ride the same board and shorts as ke11y - strapless is your way.

at my home spot good waves usually come with 30+knots of wind and pretty harsh conditions on water. strapless looks like setting limits and needless sophistication of waveriding with a kite (not to be confused with surfing with a kite).

i agree with tautologies, that if you choose your strap position wisely, then you do not feel limited in straps

For myself the strapless goal has been somewhat bi-polar. One week I remove the straps, next week I run with just the front strap (hazardous), then next week I go with both straps.

I just love the pure agression in can drive through the legs, body, and feet when I'm in a Gorge swell and in straps. I cannot imagine how many years it would take to drive the same heel, and toeside grinds, as well as fly through chop, and jumps if I stick with strapless.
My current mind (subject to change) is: straps when it's lit smoke on the water, strapless when it mellows a bit.
