OT: Olympics 2012

Postby toyletbowl » Sat Aug 04, 2012 3:09 am

Off topic (OT):

I love everything about the Olympics, both summer and winter. Started watching as a kid and missed only a few years of watching ever.

What country are you from? I'm from the USA

Any events or athletes in particular you are pulling for?

Just saw Missy Franklin win the 200m BS. 17 yrs old and a great story.
Phelps winning over 20 medals was expected, but cool nonetheless.
Looking forward to seeing Jamica's Usain Bolt run the 100m. Is he in the 200m?

Archery is kind of cool. Sand volleyball rocks, especially the Russian pair (do a search and you'll see why).

Could care less about Basketball and wish NFL style football would replace it. Would love to see what the world has for competing in football.

Soccer (futbol) rocks.

Before anyone decides to go off saying you prefer to play and not watch, it's very easy to do both.
Non political post here, so let it go.

Go USA.

I love sports. I watch the olympics, but I really dislike how the organization is run. It is basically a very powerful entity ran on almost fascist principles by a very few people without any real grounding in laws.

I'm most interested in Handball, but anything goes really. :-)

yeah poor kids. I've seen the enormous focus on how parents react, and I cannot help but think that the parents have been pushing pretty hard to get those kids to perform. Obviously this doesn;t really happen for all, but the 16 year olds have started pretty friggin early...

Huh...I forgot about Gymnastics. Probably the best to watch like you guys say due to the pressure which leads to incredible anticipation as viewers. Pressure cooker last night for the women's all around event and great to see Gabby win it for the US.

Tauts...agree the Olympics are not the best run, but sorry this is about the athletes.

I find it fascinating watching the reactions of coaches and teammates in gymnastics when things don't go well. It would be interesting to find out how parents, coaches and even countries respond to those who do not perform as expected.

For sure. So many insanely great achievements. Well great trainers help take the pressure off. They are getting a lot better at that part. Parents...no so much. :-) Having grown up with a lot of my teammates having nutty parents I've seen how much damage it can do...

I don't like how the Olympics are overgrown with so many 3rd rate sports. Some times less is better! I would rather it be more focused on the Track & Field, Gymnastics, Swimming/Diving, Wrestling, ect ect... Instead of seeing things like Handball & Ping Pong in it. I'm sure they could cut the Olympics in 1/2. Surely that will never happen because then there would be less money in it.

Olympia is just great. Those athletes working so hard...great tht they get a chance to show themselves, even if 3rd sports...great to see them!
And the atmosphere in the stadiums and within the athletes must be soooooo awesome!

And I will be so happy that next time some of us will be able to participate...really stoked for them!

Trying to watch a lot...amazing stuff...and can't wait to the 100m sprint...gonna be exciting!

Bolt also goes for 200m...he wants to win his 3 medals again. 100, 200 and 4x100m

Listening to women's Olympic tennis this morning, I couldn't help but to think, "I wonder if these ladies are loud in bed, too?"

Be nice if they showed some of the more obscure sports, ie trampoline etc.
