The problem with the PKS strut mount is that the picture/video it takes is usually in portrait format when going along on a reach. I much prefer the landscape view because you get more on the screen ahead of and behind the rider.

The standard PKS strut mount is oriented landscape mode, if you ask for a 90 deg offset model, then and only then will it be in portrait orientation.

Check out CamConnect mount:

CamConnect by DddWorld provides a simple and reliable method to attach GoPro camera to a kiteboard using standard 38 mm apart M6 fin bolts. It was designed by kitesurfers for kitesurfers taking into account many years of experience using GoPro cameras in the sport.

Features:
  • printed from the strongest currently available nylon plastic (Alloy 910). It is stronger than the camera enclosure
  • built-in pan/tilt/roll angles are set for the best possible framing, no need for a guess work aiming the camera
  • firmly fixes the camera in the desired direction eliminating any movements even when the board hits the water during jumps
  • keeps the camera much closer to the board than when the stock mounts are used
  • features a channel for the security thread around one of the screws providing reliable connection to the board
  • dimensions allow to access the camera while keeping the enclosure attached to the mount
  • protects the board deck from any damage caused by the fin screws
The camera manufacturer's stock mounts as well as the third party products don't provide firm fixation of the camera and let it rotate in the joints in all directions. In contrast CamConnect keeps the camera in the desired direction during the whole session ensuring the best possible video footage. Anyone interested in shooting kiteboarding action videos should have CamConnect.

Nobile boards owners should check CamConnect Mobile edition:

The unique design of the fin mount used in many Nobile boards makes it impossible to use any products that mounts the camera using the standard 38 mm apart M6 fin bolts. CamConnect Nobile edition by DddWorld solves this problem.

CamConnect is installed on the board replacing one of the stock fin plates. Once installed it allows to mount Nobile fins using their quick connect locking mechanism. At the same time CamConnect features a socket to install a GoPro camera. The camera socket provides built-in pan/roll/tilt angles to provide the best possible framing.

Features:
  • 3D printed from strong and durable plastic
  • built-in pan/tilt/roll angles are set for the best possible framing, no need for a guess work aiming the camera
  • firmly fixes the camera in the desired direction eliminating any movements even when the board hits the water during jumps
  • keeps the camera much closer to the board than when the stock mounts are used
  • dimensions allow to access the camera while keeping the enclosure attached to the mount

Are the normal wrist mounts no good. As your wrist would be by the bar any way does it not give good footage?

No. The normal wrist mounts wobble way too much so the footage isn't really usable (might possibly work if you have butter flat water - but no good for any chop)

Yeah gets a bit boring from just that angle. Think I need a few mounts and mix it up lots.

I have been using GoPro for surfing, kiting, snowboarding etc since GoPro 1. I currently have the GoPro 6 black and it's great.

For kiting in particular there are only 3 good views:
1) Line Mount: Best view, best angle, most interesting. I have the CamRig and the UGo. CamRig = JamRig and will probably kill someone someday if it hasn't already. UGo is way better design and doesn't tangle.
2) Head or mouth mount: Great view but often the kite/board will be out of view and it just looks like you are riding in the ocean so be sure to angle it downward. Any cheap brand works, I've had 4.
3) Kite mount: Boring quickly but great for good locations and beautiful water. There are two on Amazon and they are both great.

Board mounts are horrible views for both kiting and surfing, they are clever designs shown above but the footage looks SUPER lame. Handheld mounts are hard to use while riding obviously but okay for quick selfies. Chest mounts are dangerous because of risk of tangles etc and the angle isn't the best.
