This should be a no brainer... when helping to launch and holding the kite you should always double check the lines if correctly set up, clear of debris (branches, vines, seaweed....), and lastly make sure the kiter isn't way over powered.
The guy launcher doesn't seem to have any clue on what to do :?:

That launcher is a dick.
He was probably texting while launching.

funny since no body got hurt
and
if you have the bar in your hand, you are the pilot and it is all your problem so it is all your responsibility to get it right,
never blame the launcher, you picked him, it is still your fault
and it is not his responsibility to double check your work(although it is nice to help and we all do) and make sure you know what the h*** you are doing

you put yourself in the right place at the right time with the right gear
you give the thumbs up, he lets go, that's it

if you can not live with that you should self launch or give up he sport and keep us all safer

rant off

sure..but as a kiter you should not expect that. You are in control, and this launch seems to me to be recoverable....or the guy should have released.

Sure the launcher and camera guy seems like dicks..., but as a kiter..when you see your kite being too high in the window, you have to move or get your launcher to move. You have pre arrange the signals for launching. If the guy just lets go you should either recover if you think you can, or release.

All of this have to be pre-decided. Ie. I know that if I do not think I can recover immediately, I will release unless it is light.

This guy panics, oversheets locks his arms and throws the kite across the window. The worst of the worst.
