Cabrinha Crash testing kites

Interesting to see to what level Pete and the crew at Cabrinha goes through to test the durability of the kites. The slow motion video is cool to see how much the LE flexes and absorbs the impact. I guess this is one time where pulling in on the bar at impact is OK.

Yes it is incredible to see how different companies test the durability of their kites. This is how we do ours.

Give me that kite and I bill break it within 3 tomahawks on the water Physics will tell you due to surface tension the kite will break on water way way easier that on the sand. The soft sand actually has lots of shock absorption characteristics and the uneven surfaces of the maui sand will easily absorb the flex of the leading edge as it crashes. I challenge cabrinha to try this in the water, I have ripped at least 3 of my own cabrinha kites on the water from tomahawking. I call false advertising.

@Jteabird

ehmm wouldnt it be better if you take a few extra lessons before you buy expensive kites which you obviously cant keep flying in the air. :roll:
I see it a lot with new kiters on their first day aswell... :naughty:

jteabird is rite. Nothing is necessarily wrong with a kite if it busts up on a tomahawk, they just weren't trying real hard to break it. Wouldn't be good advertising, lol. I sure do miss my cabrinha black tip.

I will test any kite 4 free if you ship it to me but I can't promise kiteaid will be able to fix it when I'm done.

Seriously dude ?? I have been kiting for almost 8 years and have thousands of hours on the water riding freestyle and big waves in Maui. I'm not hating on the kites or the company. I'm just saying the test in the soft uneven fluffy sand is not in any way the same as crashing it on the flat water. When crashing it on the soft uneven sand the flex in the leading edge Will absorb the shock. When smashing it on the flat water surface tension will transmit the energy up the leading edge and up the canopy and it will tear. I'm challenging them to smash the kite on the water and see how long it will last ?? Somebody will be swimming in very soon ...

I do agree with Mr.jteabird. The sand will despairs the impact better then hitting the water with full force. Because hitting the water is like hitting concrete. But still that was a good test.
