New Cabrinha Kite Sighting

I stopped by Kitebeach in Juno last weekend. Damien LeRoy was setting up some great new gear for a demo. He had a couple of foil boards, always entertaining but also something new. He had a quiver of the new 2014 Velocity VMG (velocity made good) race kites for demo. All I had with me was an iPhone for photos so here goes.

Image
Damo pumps up. The Velocity is a pure race kite developed for and by racers. Despite that it has some nice attributes for normal kiting too, like nice big, long duration jumps! Damo tells me the kite has lighter pressure, is faster and has easier turning, is higher aspect and constructed of superlightweight materials, uses a front pulley-less bridal and is registered for racing with the IKA. He tells me they put a lot of effort into fine tuning and developing this kite for 2014.

Image
Some sideshore wind just turned on so Damo starts launching kites. The Velocity is a high aspect BOW kite.

Image
The control system has a number of changes including no IDS for the racing kite, a cam cleat for trimming with a long throw on the trimming line. Had trouble keeping the shadow dudes hands off of it!

Image
New trimming hardware all around.

Image
There is a nice spinnable leash attachment.

Image
Showing off that high aspect shape in flight.

So, that is a quick look at this new high end racing kite for 2014. I understand that this kite will be available from a small number of retailers, perhaps only about six to eight.

XL Kites shot a review video on the new kite.

Looks amazing. I wonder how the 18m would be as a light wind monster for a none racer...

Depending on your weight it could be a lightwind killer, perhaps even the 16 m. Having a good lightwind board helps a great deal too.

HAHA, holy hell that's too funny. That is not a new bar that's the Ozone bar. Well good for them not trying to reinvent the wheel. Should see some of those kites on the start line in Africa hopefully.

three remarks:

-it is not even the 1st of april 2013 to joke about 2014 kites

-kites without vmg abbreviation made sloppy, not good, didn't they?

-i like black and white bar color combinations. more safe this way

yeah - honestly - WTF is this BS about a 2014 kite when it´s march 2013...?

no trying to offend anybody...

but the kite on the pictures is the same kite they have on their website as 2013 model...

there was a cabrinha race clinic in tarifa in february where they also had those kites...

just reading over the marketing blabla on their website where they state that the "kite is podium proven" (how can a new kite which was not registered in the IKA last season be podium proven?)

Not every race is an IKA race? But yes, this model year thing is dumb. Why not just have VMG 1, VMG 2, VMG 3 etc etc.

Who cares what number / year..it is just way to discriminate from one year to anotheer...
What is interesting is the foil...are cab making foilboard now?
