KSP Portugal Canceled - Any More Info?

Postby John Doe » Wed Jun 05, 2013 10:06 pm

Any more info on why the KSP Portugal was cancelled beyond what was offered up officially? What could the personal reasons be? Any speculation out there? Just curious.

Their statement;

"It’s with deep regret that KSP announces that the event at Guincho Beach, Portugal is officially cancelled. The promoters were unable to stage the event due to personal reasons and the economic situation in Portugal. It’s hoped that the event will return in 2014.

“It’s a real loss to the KSP World Tour, especially after it topped our recent Facebook poll of the MOST wanted venues on tour”.

“ Losing events is a common theme for a lot of associations in 2014 as the global economic crisis tightens its grip on sporting sponsorships,” he added.

bit of a sidestep. i was a disappointed of what was shown last year. at least at spots like guincho i had hoped for waveriding AND more freeystyle and air oriented kitesurfing. we know that the competitors were highly capable of that but obviously that style of riding would not have gained enough points. does anyone know if chances are that this year will be different in that aspect?

You did notice there's a bit of a financial crisis? Portugal isn't doin that good and the KSP doesn't have the PKRA status. Even the PKRA has trouble getting sponsors for their events.

Even the PKRA has only a handfull of stops that are on schedule every year. Germany, New Caledonia and China.
