Help Choosing a board

Postby Soccer Du25 » Thu Jun 06, 2013 6:25 pm

Hey guys,

I am an intermediate kite boarder, got all the basics down. I'm looking to get into some more exciting things, I need a board that will be able to easily go upwind while still handling some bigger jumps and tricks (maybe some hard falls).

I weigh 140 pounds and will be flying in the 16-20ish mph range. Nothing too over powered, I have an 11m kite.

I was riding a 131 best board (not sure the model, just know it was a bit older), the board seemed a bit odd, I would sometimes have trouble keeping an edge, may have been partially my fault.

Here is what I've come across after looking on almost every website I could find (you'll notice my price range is cheap as possible while getting quality to around $300, more if absolutely needed.)

I have a OR Zen and dont like it much. Its very stiff, heavy, and unforgiving in chop. Not the best for jumping as well. Other notes, I dont like the build quality of them also. Now all 4 fins are stripped in the screw slots, and had the board delamante at the edge after a very small nick and Its only been ridden 10 times.
Dont mean to put out so many negatives around this board but this has been my experience with a board I bought new.
I'm lovin my shinn monk, got it for 400 barely used.
The best advice is going to be to try some boards at your local spot or get one that has great reviews for what you're looking for.
Good luck.

riding quality depends from many things one for example is rocker of board. but think that for your needs perfect fit would be aboards z-series in size 133. although board is not cheap it's worth it. you can also surely take some second hand board, aboards quality is high and this board can serve many years. also possible to find some new board for sales price from previous years.

Well that is quite a bit out of my price range... I can go used, seems like the darko may be a good board to go with, but maybe a slingshot of some sort?

I'm riding that same LF Nova, love it. for $250 that's a great deal

i rode the 2010 darko before that, it is an okay board. not great for riding in chop though, the tips are super wide and catch on every little thing, even just riding downwind a bit. ive never tripped over myself so many times than with that board lol...
