What makes an attractive Kite destination ?

Hey @MattyRossJa,

we plan to come to Jamaican's north shore in the winter between Dec/Jan. I have been reading that the wind is pretty good then. What is your opinion? Can we get some consistent wind?
In addition, are most north beaches kite-friendly, or do we need access to private beaches for kiting ?(I read about this somewhere).

Was there last Feb, stayed in Duncan’s. Had wind almost everyday, from 14 to 25ish, NE. The place we were at has one of the nicest beaches in Jamaica, definitely not a beginner spot. Quiet spot, zero nightlife, beautiful beach and villas, friendly staff and locals. The north shore can be rocky so good kite friendly beaches are usually taken up by resorts which are tough to kite at.

Thanks for the quick reply. When you say not a beginner spot, what do you mean? Small launch area, rocks, or something else?
Do you know any open, kite-friendly, public beach in the north? From what I hear, it looks like there is almost no space to kite on the north side...

We were there just after some storms so the beach was a smaller than usual. There was reef, swimming area and a concrete break wall to avoid. If you needed to run off downwind there is a larger beach to the west in case something happens.
Burwell beach is further west near Falmouth beside the royalton. It is a public beach that some locals teach and kite at. Never been there.Theres not a lot of info on kiting in Jamaica unfortunately.

Without entering in a discussion about the right of Gay, lgbt, minority, safety etc.... (because for sure "ours democratic country" are suns in a world of shadows ), what are the best spot for flat water in Jamaica ? Is it expensive to rent an appartement or a house ? how is the cost of life ?
