You can still fly upwind but it is scary when a gust come.

What kind of quadcopter are you using ?

If there's no fairing to increase streamlining through the air, then you could possibly
add about 20% to your current Top wind-speed if Ya had one. That would be an Easy
project for me to do out of Kevlar or Spectra ; carbon would hide the RF foot-print for
the receiver from the Transmitter.

Less wind resistance, also means Less battery usage, because there is less power
consumed fighting the wind.

I have a discovery pro from team blacksheep that I am putting together. It can fly up to 60 mph so I am hoping it can film some kiting. Thats the plan anyway. The kit came with crappy screws so I am delayed putting together. Its got fpv and a gimbal. Should be sweet for filming. 12 mile range and 30 min flight time. I will post video asap.

Depends on motor and prop configuration. Stock quad fly s at 55mph. Its really hard to put together!!

Yes, lots, but too lazy to edit them. Waiting for Max (the guy you see in the pics) to do the tedious job...

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas to all!
After Bali, I've been flying the Phantom more above Buddhist temples than over the waves. Got some really nice shots. I might hijack the original topic (it's mine after all) and post some captures here. I've learned a few things since my beginnings. I have upgraded to the DJI F550 hexacopter with a gimbal for camera stabilization and control, FPV to see on a screen or goggles what the camera sees, iOSD that embeds flying data (altitude, distance, speed, vertical speed, course, etc...) into the video transmitter.
But although it flies well, it's not the ideal combo for a travelling as its arms don't fold. So my next toy will be the Tarot FY680 Folding Hexacopter, with a better gimbal (at the moment I've got a cheap servo Chinese made servo based). I wouldn't take anything larger and heavier, or I'd have to sacrifice some of my kite/board quiver.
BTW the F550 doesn't seem to fly faster than the Phantom, 10 to 12 m/s = 20 to 24 knots. I got ranges up to 600 m with the FPV. The flying time worse than the Phantom, with 2 x 5000mAh 4S batteries, 8 minutes vs 10.
You want a movie, Bille? Here is one for the circumstance:

a diso pro will not fly 60mph... too heavy. I don't care if you have 1100kv tbs pro motors or not with 8" props.

I have a disco with 900kv 9" props and if I fly level in a straight line with the wind to my tail in man mode I get 46.8mph on the gps
on the dosd. linked to my phone plus full FPV.
been out 2.4 kms . getting some stuff from hugo so I will be able to double that hopefully.

If I fly with the wind behind me I can get 57mph sooping down toward the ground. ( no GO PRO , NO gimble)

I have been flying it for a year now best quad I have flown out of the 4 I have. Next one is going to be the QAV550g

Pushing 60mph with one with a gimble and a go pro it will fly for about 5 mins maybe if you are lucky

if I put my gopro ( black ) not my go pro 2 I get 12-14 mins of flight just doing light not full power runs... if I put my black on and do full power runs with the tbs 4500 battery I might get 8 mins if lucky.

I have 10 batteries to play with and I have the 750kv motors as well and got about 18mins but would have to be carefull with wind and such with it.

oh and if you are looking at this site http://flytrex.com/challenges/speed/ I CALL BULL SH!t a phatom will not do 90 mph unless you are 1000 feet up free falling.... I want to straight level flight speeds..
