Ruben Lenten's Extract kite

Postby edt » Mon Sep 30, 2013 2:35 pm

This thing looks sick for doing megaloops, Ruben was talking about megalooping his 11m, this is great for the slightly larger lad who needed a bigger kite, or people who want to megaloop in lighter wind.

Is it going to be another hellfish where quality control problems doomed the kite or this the kite where cuben fiber finally shows its stuff. We should see it sometime in 2014 can't wait.

disclaimer i have no affiliation with best or slingshot or any other kite manufacturer.

I think Best has Cuben fiber figured out now. Hellfish was a disaster, but the Waroo Pro, Nemesis '08,'09 and v3 seemed to hold up OK with cuben fiber leading edges?

It wasn't entirely clear to me how this was a whole new category of kite?

it would be a new category of kite if it came with interchangable ruben sized testicles that you could swap out with your own before your session.

There is no new category, it is a High AR 4 line C kite. Best Kiteboarding made his own Fuel. Difference is LE cloth material Cuben Fiber, not classical Dacron.

You can not megaloop an 11m fuel. 7m, sometimes a 9m, but an 11m fuel won't turn fast enough to catch you. Ok well sometimes an 11m will work but sometimes it won't. If Ruben is correct and you can megaloop reliably on an 11m extract this is indeed a different kite. Maybe even megaloop a 13m? Some kites are all about the wakestyle others all about the airstyle others are all about the waves and drifting this is the first kite dedicated for megalooping. Can't wait to see what it's capable of. Ruben said in the internview that it's possible to use an Extract for wakestyle but he didn't seem enthused about using it this way. A Fuel is probably still better for pure wakestyle. I suspect this kite flies much more forward in the wind window than a fuel does because it has almost no drag.

All speculation at this point, but that's the fun of talking about new kites.

Ruben mentioned his bar is set up with 600kg (1300 pound) lines. Someone is thinking about using this kite for jumping off a building that's what I think.

err.. stupid question here - what´s exactly the difference between kiteloop and megaloop?..

i mean - when it stops being a kiteloop and starts being a megaloop?
