im running two boards right now a 145 x 45 and a 130 x 41.......the small board is good in about 20 plus knots with my 12m.....and the bigger board from 9 until ca. 20 knots (15m) (mit den 9 qm kite until ca. 32 knots).

I just feel the smaller board a bit too small.....do i need to go out more powered up....bigger kite or

just get a bigger smaller board in range 135-138 x 42, should be able to hold it down till 35 knots with my 9 qm kite without problems.....

we never have such a constant wind here.....with the 130 x 41 i find it hard to stay upwind......145 x 45 no problem but not much fun in too much wind..

i weigh 80 kg and am 188 tall (alot of leverage)

if anyone had the same problem a few hints would be welcome..

I think you answer your own question. If you don't like the small board then sell it and buy something you enjoy.

Test lots of boards and buy the one you enjoy the best.

There are many different boards for different styles. Some better at upwind some worse.

For I example have a 145x45 light wind board. Its a big rectangular slab that charges upwind.
My high wind board is 142x42. Doesn't sound like much difference but its a rounded tipped mutant that turns heaps better and holds a tone of power. I can hold that board to stupid winds. Plus i'm in a wave location and its great in the waves. But its not as good upwind. Who cares in the winds i'm riding this board upwind is easy any way.

thats exactly what I did

P.S.: its 136x44... and I use it as a lightwind as well as a strong wind board... since I can hold my edge with that beast without no problem, I can ride it also overpowered and jump huge...

thanks for the tip with the shinn.....a bit out of my price range though (800 euros)....i normally buy second hand and shinn in Germany does not seem to be that popular......
What do you guys weigh? I also have the feeling i can hold down my 145 x 45 in quite high winds, maybe i will just have take a chance secondhand or test some new boards.......in the range 135-138 - 42/44....

I am about 100kg.. but my girlfriend 68kg uses my Shinn as well without any issues... of course, if she wants to join the PKRA she might need a smaller one, but for freeriding, having fun and boosting, this is perfect and she prefers it to smaller ones!

This is where kiters go stupid. Choose your board based on your weight not the wind. This is for twins since you pick you pick your surf board based on the waves your riding. If you can't hold down a 9m in 35kts then its your kite you need to downsize.

Based on what you said you should be in the 135-140 range and the difference for those would rocker. More rocker go bigger less rocker go to the 135.

I weigh 86kg and ride a 2012 North Jaime 136x41. Works really well for me in all conditions that I would use my only two kites, a 2011 Naish Park 9m and 12m. I think 130x41 is just too short for your weight. I think you should sell both boards and get something in the 135-138 range. Then if you feel the need you can add a light wind specific board or a directional at a later date. I have a Liquid Force Kitefish that adds a few knots to the low end of my 12m, but generally I can get up and plane pretty quickly with the twin tip so I only take out the Kitefish when I feel like I need a change.

At 86kg, just bought a Clash, 136x40, i was out on a 10m (nobile fifty50) in 13 ish, going upwind, slashing,nthe chop,popping and All. The same board in 138x 40,5 could be easily held in 35 knots. With the 12m i was going somewhere between 10 and 12knots ... Not too shabby. With the 15m i will by all fine in 10 knots. By going i mean, being a ywhere I want to be on yhe water, not just holding a line.

Shinn supershinn 137*44 works as a one board solution for me. Great upwind performace and a good jumper.

Really a fun board that is light and playable.
