Can anybody help me?

I´ve tried the hadlow and it is very comfortable, , it eats chop very well because of the big rocker, very good pop but upwind performance...i need a bigger kite.

I couldn´t find a monk to try, but the reputation is so good .....

My spot is very choppy, and winds between 15 and 30 knots, very gusty.

Thanks

I ride a 134/42cm Shinn monk forever and while its a great board it does not have a very good low end. I weigh 82kg and need around 14mph to have much fun on it. Does go upwind very well. I heard that the Hadlow also needs a fair bit of wind to get going, so may not help much...

Hi mate,

I wouldn't have fun kiting on any board at 12knots/14Mph...but that's me (being spoiled with better wind).

Cheers

monk is smoother and a better board in chop, hadlow is an awesome board and does everything well

both arent great at light wind if your heavier, but for me the hadlow went upwind better cause it had more concave at 200 lbs

either board you cant go wrong, get the hadlow if you like wide stances

then you have tried both and think that monk is somoother and better in chop than hadlow?

hadlow goes better upwind than monk? i thought that the monk with less rocker wuold go upwind better.

ok thanks

If you are looking at thehadlow, perhaps the shinn board you shoud be looking at is the ADHD
The Monk is now one of three possible hardcore choices to rival the Hadlow;

ADHD - higher rocker like the hadlow
Ultrasonic - high drive and demanding but blistering performance
Monk - somewhere between the two.

There is a lot more to it than that, but the monk is no longer at the "top" of the shinn range anymore..
There are some reviews on the kiteboarder.co.uk site and the ADHD test boards have just landed.

i am not looking a pure freestyle/wakestyle board, perhaps you think this because i like the hadlow, but although it is a freestyle board it is very smooth, confortable, and eats chop too and for me it is perfect but the upwind performance (hugh rocker), i wondered if the monk can equal almost everything and beating it in upwind performance and confort riding even with front foot pressure.

Thanks

It's a hard thing to quantify, as everyone has a different style and stance. I have tried many times knowing friends to recommend the board I think they will like and while I'm normally close, it's impossible for me to say 100%.
The Ultrasonic is a classic case - hailed as the messiah by some, and a weapon of torture by others.. ha ha
You really need to test them if possible, but from what you say I think that the Monk is the best all-rounder, it gets the most universal praise of any board I have seen so far. The adhd is also close for what you want.
Is there somewhere you can try one? where are you based?

I have some people telling me the hadlow is soft and has no feel, and poor midrange, other heavyweights say it's better when totally overpowered, but for me the monk has always beet the most versatile, easiest and most entertaining board, that seems to get proportionally better and better the worse the conditions get...

Shinn boards look like they were made in the 1950's - by someone's mum.... and since there are a lot of other great boards out there that don't...

I have found the construction of shinn boards to be excellent, I am not sure anyone would say that about the hadlow.
