Electric kite pump

Postby SpaceRacer » Sat Nov 02, 2013 8:32 pm

I must admit, I always thought these things quite goofy but was recently roasting my balls off in a wetsuit and the wind came up and cursed having to pump up my 12 after just pumping my 14. I also snow kite and at times find myself in too deep of powder to pump or end up breaking into a sweat pumping in snow clothes. There are a lot of posts out there. Can you keep it simple and tell me the best one to buy?

Cant speak to which is "best". Buddy here hast the BST it is a two speed auto pump that is built for salt and sand environment. Was very impressed & since we use 17 & 13s 90% of the time, it is now high on my christmas list!!

I'm really sorry to hear about all this sweating you've been doing. It must have been awful.

I have this pump, the one without the built in battery. I purchased a 7mha battery and a 10 mha as backup. The 7mha works fine but will only pump about 6 kites. The batteries cost between $25 and $35.

The pump works fantastically. I built a sand filter using a Kurig coffee filter. Lately we have been kiting in air temperatures in the low 40s F. The goal in these temps is don't get cold before you get on the water so recently I don't even take the pump out of the trunk. Get dressed at home, drive to beach, park into the wind. And pump my kite in the shelter of my vehicle flip it attach the lines using a line manager and launch.
I've never owned another one but I can vouch for this one, been using it since spring now without any problems.
If I don't ever manually pump a kite again i'll be happy. What a waste of energy it is. Sweating in the cold is worse then sweating in warmth as you know....
Go for, you will not ever look back if you do.
Sincerely
Pete

for someone on the fence about spending the $$ the least you can do is get a coleman rechargeable for about $20 ( I bought a few used on amazon for $13)

I inflate through the deflate valve, fully inflates with no pressure in about a minute.. then you inflate the rest manually. 50% of energy saved- more worth it for medium to big kites 10m +

The BST is very well built and reliable.
I have my BST for 8 years now and love it.

There is an Australian built pump called the island pump. Much better build internally. Won't go into it but look it up yourself. Not sure if you can get one though. That's my next investment, I'm sick of pumping up my 17m zephyr...call me slack but 14 seasons later I'm over it.
