WTF

Earlier today had my center lines snap on the outside break. Was just stuck out there floating for half hour attached to kite trying to make it back but could not and was only getting pulled out farther and farther. So made decision to ditch the gear and swim. Hardly made it back, only made it back my realizing that laying on back and paddling that way is efficient and gets back. Than to my amazement when I get back some windsurfers or kiters are like oh glad you made it in, THEY SAW THE WHOLE THING AND DID NOTHING. If I had more energy would of jacked the guy in the face, I could of died if I was not a good swimmer or was injured who knows. I was waiving arms in rescue single.

I don't know about others but if I EVER saw ANYONE separated from there kite or getting dragged out to sea, I would ride out to them make sure they are OK, shit I would even pump up my kite just to ensure a fellow kiter is OK. Or go call the coast guard if I did not have gear.

You don't wait till someone fucking drowns to call for rescue !!!

so what was the problem?
You only went out as far as you could swim in, good call.

But you should have climbed up the other line to the kite and self-rescued with the kite.
Among other things, you would have been more visible.
Could have saved your life, if you got tired.
But fortunately your fitness and your brain saved you.
Live to play another day.

get yourself a commemorative T-shirt.

Agree. It would totally harsh their stoke if you had died. I hope you told them that.

I hope they learned something and next time won't be as blase.

glad you are ok.

Well, damn, if the LE popped, someone really ought to have helped you, that's a sticky situation.
RIP to your kite.

If you were waiving your arms signaling you need rescue these guys should have at least called for a rescue, in fact if you had died I would place quite a bit of blame on their lack of action. This kind of lax attitude is not excusable imho.

I would have at least swung by and checked the situation out. But you cannot count on me, cause i wasnt there.

WHenever I go kiting, I assume no one will help me. If someone does its cool, but not expected.

I would ditch the kite fo sure if its pulling me out, and would not go after anyones kite if it were going out to sea. Only care about humans, not their belongings.

PFD would be a great help but there is no way for these guys who were witnessing this guy waving his hands calling for help to know weather or not he had one, or was drowning or was having a heart attack or being attacked by a shark. You just don't ignore the "i need help signal"

I don't go out expecting others to help me either, I try to mitigate the risks I take on my own but that doesn't mean when someone needs help people should just ignore it...

People can really suck. My local group is great , I think they would have checked in on me.
Its always a good idea to hang out a little and get to know people. Most people are more likely to help out if they know you personally. My nature is always to keep an eye out for trouble. I hold doors for people also, but sadly in this day of age many people do not even thank you.

Safety plan, and pfd/impact vest are not an option IMO.
