Taking kiting stuff with KLM, Iberia or TAM, any experience?

Postby sijandy » Wed Apr 09, 2014 5:31 pm

Have trauled through the airline threads but havn't found much on either of these and given my budget it looks like my trip to brazil this summer will be via one of these. I've looked at their websites and to be honest am still none the wiser on wether i will be charged or not and if so how much. All i want to take is one checked bag (Mystic kitebag 150cm) and hand luggage, my kite bag will prob be in the region of 25-30kg. So basically is'nt much different than any other normal passenger other than the shape of the bag. Any experience of these airlines or information will be much appreciated, cheers.

Are you coming in International to your destination? Or are you say stopping in RIO for a few days then north to the wind?

You will find TAM baggage info here.
http://www.tam.com.br/b2c/vgn/v/index.j ... 08020aRCRD

If your worried you buy more KG here
http://www.tam.com.br/b2c/vgn/v/index.j ... 08020aRCRD

Its not much $

I've traveled with all the Airlines here. When you check your bags they don't really care about the size. They will get you on the weight. You can do one of two things. Purchase extra upfront (best way) Or when they catch you they will give you a invoice to pay at another desk. Once you pay this they will finish your check-in (pain in the ass).

You might want to check out www.condor.com
You pay not much for an extra golf bag with your kite gear inside.

Cheers

Not so long ago Toby posted a topic regarding KLM and Air France new policy for kite gear.
I think it said that up to 6' or so your kitebag will be considered ordinary baggage.
