Lightwind kite for heavy rider?

Postby KitingIrish43 » Wed May 28, 2014 5:12 am

I am looking for a lightwind kite(10-15kts). I am 250lbs and an experienced rider. I have a Fat Lady 17m but would like a change. Not crazy about the Fat Lady performance. Any suggestions? How about the new Cabrinha Contra 17m? Thanks!!

With your weight you need a big lightwind kite, if you have steady wind buy a Speed 4 21 or 19 or a Crono 18, they pull way more than the biggest tubekites. If you have gusty conditions buy a Edge 19, it is the best lightwind tubekite for big guys.

Please don't listen to Guttorm. Ram Airs like the Flysurfer Speed and Chrono 18 are inferior in every way compared to inflatables. Let me know if you'd like to know the reasons.

Hi KitingIrish
Maybe you can have a look at the Switchkites website, www.switchkites.com and have a look at the Nitro V3 16m, I am sure this kite is an equivalent to what you are looking for, at a much better price!
there is an English version test at www.gleiten.tv. which will give you a pretty good impression and comparison.

hope this helps a bit
cheers

I'd second the larger speeds/Chrono for pure light wind performance.

Don't listen to pump me chump.

Also, what board do you use? a light wind board is just as important as a lightwind kite!

What are you looking for in a kite.

Not going to compare these to the fat lady, but check out the Naish Fly and BRM Cloud 17. Both are very fast and agile kites with a ton of power. They make other big kites feel like slow dogs. Alternatively check the big Naish draft..ton of power, goes upwind like there is no tomorrow, but does not turn as fast as the Fly or Cloud.

If your looking for better performance as far as speed and low end we would recommend the Flite 17m. Here is our light wind test video if it helps you out. Roger is about your weight.

For you in 10-15kn....Core XR3 19m2...Ozone Edge 19m2
Those are 2 different style riding kites
One has power plus fast turning and looping
One is powerful mostly parked
Also look at Zeeko...they have a 21m2 3 struts

any chance to test somewhere?

check if there are demos in your area, and try out as many kites as possible to find one that suits you!
