Wow. Are you sure? I can't imagine a pound of dirt in the canopy. I intentionally got my kite wet today hoping to clean off some dirt. It seems that even if your kite never touches the water, if you have a session in high humidity it attracts sand and dirt.

For a big kite 450g of salt, sea debris and gunk is quite believable. Good idea to was in fresh water and let dry in the shadow once in a while

just another smart comment about topic:
FYI: Your kite is heavier in Northern Europe for example, than it is in Hawaii or Aruba.
Fun fact for the totally bored.
so awesome...

Only if you are at sea level, in alpine lakes they will be lighter

Have been thinking about this recently as I'm pretty sure my 15m Juice is lighter than my 12m Rebel (have yet to weigh either). I think the next big step for innovation in kiting is optimizing the weight (cuben canopies
) of kites and other gear. It happens in every sport, and just has yet to really hit kiting.

I just weighed my kites:
2012 best ts 17m 4.55 kg (weighed with a lightweight bag)
2011 best ts 8m 3.15 kg (weighed with a lightweight bag)
2012 LF nrg 12m 4.3 kg
NRG is heavy.. but if it isn't your lightwind kite it doesn't matter(?). I like it very much
btw, new speed 4 lotus 21m is 3.7 kg (without bar & fly lines). That's lightweight! Lighter kites are great when you travel by airplane..
