For my next holiday I decided to bite the bullet and have taken two lots of sports equipment allowances. So that although my wife does not know it, she is carrying my hydrofoil

getting so tough today . travelling more with a kite bag with kite and harness stuffed in it as hand luggage - i take off spreader bar off just in case and put it in main luggage. Can hardly take anything other than kite kite with 20kg + 10 kg (hand luggage) with 2 kites and 2 boards (bindings board and twintip)

Interesting!
I tried it once to take a bar as hand luggage. At the security check they pulled me out and didn't let me take it since there is metal on the inside and you could use it as a weapon...

Exactly- friends of mine experienced the very same, bar not allowed.
So there is a risk as it seems some will allow it others will stop you

I agree with Peter. A bar is not worth the risk of being stopped. I asked US airport security about it one time and they said absolutely not.
I have been able to easily pack a 9m kite in a suck down bag and put it into a fold up soft suit case with my clothes as carry on. My second computer bag carry on I put my camera equipment/laptop and helmet. The rest of my kite equipment goes as check in under 50 lbs.
