Fuerteventura August!

Postby gvironda » Thu Jul 31, 2014 10:59 am

Hi guys
I am leaving for Fuerte tomorrow, and it's getting tough to board on the flight both TT and directional.
How are the conditions in the North of the island in this period? Mainly flat water, so better to opt for the TT?
Thanks

Wind is more constant in summer but waves are not so big. Mainly flat-ish water at flag beach and if you are lucky you may get some waves at El Cotillo. think I would take a TT as you can also use that in waves

Hi all,

I am thinking to go in Fuerteventura in two weeks, from 23 to 29 th August ; is there a lot of tourists this year and is the big hotel of sovamento a good place for kiting and family ? can I rent a hydrofoil there or should I bring mine ?

I really like the Flagbeach area.. I would go there if I was you..
Rent a car from the airport, find a place in Corralejo (nice place, best in the most east (south) part.. I think you can enter the water there for foiling.. contact Gunnar ( User GMB13?) for the best and current info.
edit; more family friendly i think and you can make a nice site seeing day tour to Lanzarote with the ferry.

Are you thinking about hotel Meliá in Sotavento? It is "so so". Over-priced and under-managed. But the location is ok and convenient not having to do any transportation or coordination. I suppose you can rent hydrofoil at the René Egli kite center just by the hotel. Cabrinha. Check with them. As I'm sure you've seen on internet, the beach is huge but exposed to the sea and waves. It is not like Almenarre, if it is that Giens you are referring to, Regis.

Carefull with wind predictions in Fuerte! Don't trust wind finder/guru for wind predictions on the spots.
The best chance to kite is the lagoon because it can manage lots of wind directions.
But in every topic I see about Fuerteventura nobody talks about the tides in the lagoon! It can get dry!
From 23 to 29 you are unlucky! https://www.rene-egli.com/windsurfing/w ... ing/lagoon
Better go a week later!

If you like the sea more or the lagoon is full of kiters or dry: d Better call locals from the local spots to check if there is wind an drive:
Sotavento (lagoon): +34928547483
Coralejo (Flagbeach): +34928866389
El Cotillo: +34639492123

Go to the north beach. I was south 3 weeks ago and it seems to only blow NE this time of year. Jandia is offshore and gusty, good for boosting big jumps randomly and not a lot else.

Good luck- the security airport people on the flight home tried to ram a ladies "oversized" triathlon bicycle through their undersized xray machine. It got stuck. Took about half an hour to retrieve. Once they did get it through they then jammed it up with the husbands even bigger bike.

flag beach has been rammed every day for the last two weeks, many days over 20 knts and more, many good wave days, big shore break today so the main launch area is quiet in front of the hire centre, well sort of quiet as the sand is full of kites.
I check the Lineup shops beach cam at least 6 times a day, its has a great cam which jumps around the full area of beach and harbour, showing flag beah launch area at the end of each 2 minute scan, its where the two catamarans sit on the sand,
I am there for 6 months starting 4th October, just for the hydrofoil, should be out nearly every day, its a hard life, but someone's got to live it :thumb:
