Kiteboard for choppy water?

Postby wetdog » Mon Aug 04, 2014 3:27 pm

I'm reading the on-line reviews and according to them almost all boards "handle chop well".

So I'm turning to you for help. What board would you recommend for choppy conditions?

I'm currently looking at the Shinn Red or Turbo, Nobile T5, CrazyFly Shox or maybe North X-Ride?

The Shinn Red, Turbo, Monk.
Any freeride Shinn will be great.
Wainman Joke and Cruzer.
Ocean Rodeo Mako.

you can certainly exclude the Nobile T5 from your list. it is fairly square and with small rocker, so no.
i use it as my light wind tt.

I use an ocean rodeo mako for nasty confused swell/chop. No edges to catch. It needs solid wind to go upwind though.

What do look for in a board for choppy water.

High rocker. 50mm+
Rounded tips not rectangular.
Flexible tips.

But they can be power hungry. So upside a size or 2 from your normal TT.

2nd Vote for this board which is my main ride (132 x 41), I believe the CF Shox Custom is very similar design without the carbon layup.

The Mako is also great, I use a 150 x 40 for big chop and small waves.... it rides similarly sized
to my CF so I'd endorse the comment about it needing decent wind.
