North Kites confusion! On purpose???

Postby SpaceRacer » Thu Aug 14, 2014 1:49 am

I am sorry to create another topic that has been discussed ad nauseum but the more I read and research and demo, the more I am confused. Perhaps even more so. Perhaps this is Norths MO? So we buy them all. So we have something to argue about. I have been on Rebels since 08. Aside from the fact that after being on Rebels for 6 years, they have become a bit stale for me, I have been looking for a kite that might be a little less grunty and a little smoother and a little bit better looping and a little bit better in the waves than the Rebel, even at the risk of maybe losing some boost and hang time. I am a hooked in, free ride, occasional wave, occasional looper who thought I found just that in the 2014 Evo until......so has apparently everyone else with their Dice and Fuse and Rebel and Evo and Dyno (replaced the Fuse?). Can this be? Can we get it figured out before the 2015s come out? There are clearly differences in design. There must be some basic differences in how they fly.

Just to really confuse you, sounds like you should be going Neo! Neo 2014 more or less hits the characterics you are talking about. Am loving mine, maybe demo one? Cheers

Maybe it's time to try a different kite company altogether.

Good point, i have also been out on Rebels since 2007. Sometimes tried out something different, but always came back to the old faithfull.

Untill i bought a set of 2012 Rebels. Gosh they were sluggish, no good in the waves, when Sky Solbach for North did market the kite to be that.
Had some bad sessions with these kites (7m2 & 9m2) until i lost fun in kiting all together.

Puchased this summer a set of 2013 Reo's and refound the fun in kiting.

All I can say is I have my 2015 dices already. They have taken some off the top end and added to the bottom end. Less lag, fly forward more, better freeride kite all round but I do feel they have taken off some of its wave riding ability, but it is still a mile in front of the rebel in the waves. In it's lower end it's still as good as most will ever need, but at the top end, it's been bridalled to give far more power in the turns, it's not a shut on and off affair even on the wave setting. A tad more bar pressure all round as would be expected. More stable at its top end though, actually all round. Has this weird little Y bridal on the last connection apparently that has something to do with it. But it still has the same dice feel and still has more drift ability than the normal rider will ever need. Goes much much bigger in its top third. You've actually got to watch the bar throw a bit now, nothing like a high aspect kite but nevertheless it's not as predictable. But that's the gig if you want boost potential. Unlock the C in it and she goes as good as I will ever need, I used to ride rebels and edges. You wanna ride these kites though and others and in the end take notice of the power delivery, how does it deliver it's power and does this click with you. It's an overall feel thing becuase there are plenty of options for what you want now.

I suggest you fly them all and see which one suites.

The Evo is not a wave kite man no matter what they bullshit. Get even slightly close to critical and she's no good.

I ride both TT and SB.

Good luck with it all.

Yeh agreed the Evo thing is weird. I'd like a decent explanation for that. Didn't click with any of us the new ...well soon to be old neo...but I know guys who love them. It all depends.

Just go for the Fone Bandit and get done with it.
It does everything pretty well. 8)

Nah parently, they now swapped Evo and Neo in the order of release ie.

2014 models: Evo November 2013, Neo Feb 2014
2015 models: Neo November 2014, Evo Feb 2015

So the 2014 Evo actually has a commercial lifespan of 1.5 years. :D And the 2014 Neo about 6 months.

So I have been told by the local dealer.

I changed brands this year, nothing wrong with that, not married to any brand. Not married at all :nono: :thumb:
