2014 Ozone Edge expieriences

Postby Xtream » Wed Sep 10, 2014 10:54 pm

Ozone Edge riders,
How have your kite held up? I know it just 1/2 a season for the 2014 kite, I'm just curious to how they have held up for you.
I recently demoed this kite and I really liked the performance, my only concern was the leading construction and the price WOW.
The leading construction did not look as robust as some other brands, that doesn't necessarily make it bad, just would like to know if there are quality issues.
I demoed 5 different kites and kept coming back to the Edge as one of my favorites especially in the 13m size. Are there other kite that feel similar if so I haven't found one yet.
Would love to hear your input

I have 2013 10m and and 2012 13m.

You are correct they are a lighter constructed kite with less reinforcement. you cannot hammer and smash them as much as more robustly built kites.

But if you fly well and don't crash them all the time and can launch/land without scraping the LE too much you can get years out of them.

The 2014/15 edge is D2 material which is apparently stronger. So it should be more robust than previous models.

Some people complain about the lack of reinforcement on the edge for freeride use. I personally get a good run out of them. I only recently upgraded my 2010 13m edge. After 4 years it was still going strong.

I have tested the edge 8m 2015 (prototype) and it flies like my Nitro v3 10m. Being an 8m was faster turning than my 10 and the bar pressure is super light. (which I liked). Very responsive, super fun, felt like "video game".
So, you might wanna test also switch Nitro. Same flying characteristics, switch has a little more bar pressure compare to the edge and it's tough built. In any case if you like this kind of type kites you can't go wrong with either of them.

My 19m has 7 blister holes at the wingtip bladder after only one month.

The struts of the edge are pretty thin, but the leading edge seemed fine (durable and good stitching). The kites are treat it like trash, laying the whole day on the beach, struts are not deflate it for the next day and till now 2 weeks no problems... I will have the chance to fly it for one last time next week and have a more thorough look.

Thanks for the feedback,
Dimp, you mentioned that your Switch Nitro flys similar to the Edge's I actually have a Switch Nitro 3 10M and is feels nothing like the Edge in my opinion, however the Edge was a 13 but
I have also flow the Nitro 3 14 and it thought it felt closer to a Switchblade than the Edge, I'm not certain but I think the Edge is higher aspect than the Switch Nitro 3 it certainly feels like it is.

Thanks again for your input

I have flown switchblade 2014 for me it's not the same. The edge and the Nitro (that I own) had flown at the same day switching each other... And to me they were flying the same, but edge lighter bar pressure and faster turning. And it's a prototype for 2015. I haven't flown 2014 edge.

I own 8 and 13 2014 edges and i really like them!!
8m is incredibly fast and responsive, low bar pressure which i liked a lot too!
But i am selling them. 8m because i dont get to use it since where i live it never blows hard enough, have only used it two times which i enjoyed and the 13 because i bought a 12m chrono instead to foil competitively.
I have them cheap and they're both like new. Send me a PM if interested
Cheers
