labeling your gear

Postby nychris » Wed Nov 12, 2014 10:50 pm

What do you all use to label your kites and board? I put sticker labels on both and they were gone after the first day. The sticker rubbed off and in the small part that was left the ink from the Sharpie was smeared. Are there any good waterproof labels that won't come off in the water?

I use these on my boards and kites - they don't come off on their own, don't fade and look great going on 3 years now. http://www.namebubbles.com/Labels/Dishw ... ?DeptID=65

If you are good with a power drill in hand, you can use the right drill bit and engrave. May not help resale value but that label sure aint coming off.

I wrote my initials on my compstick with a sharpe, and could not get it off when I sold it a few days ago. If the ink sinks in to some rubber, it should be there for a good long while.

Vinyl lettering sticks to boards and stays, same stuff used by sign/custom graphics shops.

Find a sign shop and get them to cut you a bunch, or there are cheaper hobby level cutters available too so you can just cut your own, opens up the possibility to make your own lettering and whatever other creations you want to cut out and stick on things.

For my board I put clear packing tape over my business card. I haven't put anything on my kites but need to do it. Also label your pump, a marker works.

Scuba diving shops sell good markers in different colors for water gear.

I've read, the Coast Guard wants our gear to be labelled because when they find gear on the water it helps them to know if they should search for someone in the water.
