Kiting in or very near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico?

Postby gregfun » Mon Jan 12, 2015 3:27 am

I'm headed to Cabo for a friend's 50th next week. Is it worth bringing my kite gear? Thank you.

La Ventana and Los Barriles are about 2-3 hours away and they're both world class kite spots. Just kited the last 7 says of a 7 day kite trip!

Thanks. I know about Las Ventans. Although, this is a quick trip to Cabo to spend a couple of days with friends...I'm not going to have the luxury to drive 2hrs and then 2hrs back same day. Any experience kiting over on the Pacific at or near Cabo? 30 min drive from Cabo?

I've kited Cabo three times. Not very reliable wind and lost a board and munched a kite in the same session. I don't recommend it.

Head up the east cape if there are good northerly winds blowing. Just pick a beach that you're comfortable with the launch/land. The waves are typically tiny this time of year on the east cape. Watch out for rocks! This will be 30-60 minute drive, depending on where you are staying in Cabo.

Los Barriles is 40 minutes from the San Jose del Cabo airport (SJD) and Lord of the Wind competition runs Jan 15-18. Contact Megan and Ian at Losbarrileskiteboarding.com for info. This is the season for both LB and La Ventana. The Kiteboarder just wrapped up its freeride test in La Ventana this past Sunday and had wind everyday!
