New Product: Switch Launches Lightwind Kite Helium

Switch Kiteboarding announced today, the arrival of their first lightwind kite - the Helium. Designed by Bill Hansen, the Helium utilizes Bill's decades of experience, to achieve tight performance parameters and overcome restrictions associated with a lighter kite design.

The new Helium is a moderately swept high aspect, high projected area wing specifically designed for light air performance. The planform and profiles are carefully sculpted to reduce drag and optimize lift at the low angles of attack encountered in light wind flight where the apparent wind exceeds the true wind. A fixed no-pulley 6-line bridge bridle provides even spanwise Leading Edge support, while allowing quick pivotal turning and maximum de-power. Construction is strong yet light in a 3-strut configuration.

Priced at US$ 849.00 with free global delivery.

Sir,

I think it's only right to also display the prices in Euros and any other currency Switch accepts.

I can't buy that for 849$.

is that because of what Switch is doing or is that because the country you wish to import this has strict or ridiculous import laws? I'm pretty sure if you go to there site and indicate where you are located the price updates accordingly, I doubt the difference is going into Switches pockets.

I can buy it for $849 US dollars all day long .... but at 20% on the dollar make it closer to $1000 Canadian $ , but I know it will work out to 849 US in the end.

Still a shit ton cheeper then the rest for a 18m light wind kite

My biggest gripe is the typical 3% fee for the conversion to Euros. VAT seems to be charged at the same rate no matter where you're based in the EU.

I simply do not buy anything at retail price especially if I'm losing more due to this fee. I've bought what, 14 kites or so and I've never paid RRP for any, I've always got a genuine deal on them.

If you paid 400$ for something, I must pay less than you did otherwise I feel bad :D

These Switch kites are at or near the price of some other brands, especially at this time of year.

I'm really not qualified to comment on the price difference of Switch gear.

never flip my friend... bigger things to worry about in life.

Trust me being from Canada with the dollar down like it is every cent make a lot... Hell we don't even have pennys no more in Canada. Oh 20% exchange and then 13% tax on top of that after the exchange...

849.00 + 169.80 =1018.80 x 13%=132.44= 1151.24 + duties if they hit you on them ( been charged 250 dollars once) so that works out to 35% roughly above the starting cost.

1.00 CAD = 0.834382 USD
Canadian Dollar ↔ US Dollar
1 CAD = 0.834382 USD 1 USD = 1.19849 CAD on todays market

and the eur being roughly 15cent on the dollar more then the US dollar

1.00 EUR = 1.15681 USD
Euro ↔ US Dollar
1 EUR = 1.15681 USD 1 USD = 0.864445 EUR on todays market so it plays on your side way better then mine.

just saying

$849 all day long for me, and free shipping, no VAT, no sales tax :)

Can't wait to get one and test it on the snow and water.

In reply to you trying to lord this over me.

Let me remind you what you as a Canadian cannot get:

1. Irn Bru
2. Marmite
3. Baby walkers

I found this interesting:

Core XR3 19m - 5.03 kg / 11.08 lbs - $1,849 USD
Switch Helium 18m - 4.595 kg / 10.13 lbs - $849 USD
Crazyfly Cruze 17m - 4.49 kg / 9.89 lbs - $1,639 USD
Slingshot Turbine 17m - 4.48 kg / 9.87lbs - $2,199 USD
Epic Infinity v3 - 4.39 kg / 9.67 lbs - $1,599 USD
Cabrinha Contra 17m - 4.23 kg / 9.32 lbs - $1,759 USD
Blade Fat Lady 17m - 4.04 kg / 8.9 lbs - $1,649
OR Flite 17m - 3.94 kg / 8.68 lbs - $1,759 USD
Maui Cloud 17m - 2.74 kg / 6.04 lbs - $$$$ ?

Best TS 17m - ?kg/ ?lbs- $1,899 USD

For a light wind kite to perform well in very light wind, isn't weight a prime factor?

I figure a heavy kite would need a greater minimum wind speed to be flyable.

Everything is a tradeoff I suppose and you just have to try things out for yourself as there are so many performance variations.

Can anyone add the missing info to those as well and other models that are also light wind.
