kite quiver for 175lbs guy

Postby keegster17 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 8:15 pm

looking to get some new gear. I am 175lb guy 5,8". Will be kiting in Canada,Toronto area, and surrounding kite spots like Wasaga Beach. right now i have 138cm board, i want to at some point get a larger board, but for now focusing on getting a two kite quiver. right now i also have a 2013 liquid force CPR bar, and i am interested in trying a few Switch kites. Any thoughts on size and possibly model if someone has experience with switch kites?

12/9, 11/8, 10/7

Depends on how much wind you got at your home spot but a quiver like the examples above should be fine.

I am 165 pounds qnd even though i usually have a 3 or 4 quiver kites. The one i am using 80% of the time are my 9m and 12m.

My 9m : 15 to 30. Fun range 18-19 to 26-27
My 12m : 10 to 25. Fun range 13-14 to 21-22

I am giving you the max I can get from these kites. But the max isnt the sweet spot.

For example i could get out with my freerace board in 10-11 knots on my 12m but honestly in these wind i'd rather take the 15m. But if i had to keep only 2 kites, it would be 12m and 9m.

at 175 I would go for a quiver of 9m 12m something with good low end and lots of range. Core Xr3 are great all around, there are tons of good kites but I've had good success with these.

Hey Keegster...i am in toronto and you need a 14 or 15m and a 9 or 10....i would go 14m switchblade silent sports has a mint one used for 699 and then a 10m of whatever you can find......14m can take you down to 8knots on a door and up to 16-17kts on regular board..........the 10m you can ride mid teens to low twenties on a regular board like a 140 by 42..........and wind ranges outside of that you will need a dedicated lightwind kite and a smaller 8 or 7m for mid to high twenties.

One thing we have learnt is that you mill miss alot with only a 12m and 9m. !2m would be great in a 3kite quiver for you....like 15 12 9. but 2 kites 14 and 10

having said all that if you do go 12m and 9m make sure its a strong 12m like 12m rally or 12m switchblade or 12m north rebel

other than spring and fall alot of our wind is 8 to 16 or 17kts....so your number one kite should be for that range.

All that makes sense if your in your fist couple seasons.

Once your into a surfboard for our waves you can make do nicely with a 12/9

Have done seasons of all the riding that was worth it on a 10 sle as a big kite.

customer service at Switch Kites thought the Nitro 4 and size 14 and 10 kite would be good for me.
