New Ozone Edge Comparison or Reviews?

Postby flybykite » Sun Mar 01, 2015 4:34 am

My Ozone Edges are getting a bit old and tired. I'm looking at getting a new quiver of the current model but I see that Ozone says they have redesigned it completely. That worries me a bit since I think the design was the strongest trait of the kite.
I'd like some comparisons of the new edge vs. the previous generation.
Anyone out there able to comment?

I'm confused about the models of the edge. I think the current model is being called both 2014 and 2015 depending on where you look. It came out May 1st, 2014. I think there should be a new model coming out in the next few months.

I'm not of much help though. Whatever model year it is, I haven't tried it, only 2012 and 2013.

I've owned and put a lot of hours on Edges since 2009. The latest version is crisper more responsive and stronger construction goes better on all points of sail than previous years BUT the new version is also heavier than 2013 also tends to back stall a bit in lighter winds.

I have been flying the new 13m-15m 2015 edges and What stands out the most for me is quicker turning and lighter bar pressure compared to last years. Absolutely love them!

The new ones are the 2014/15
From the folks i know that flew the old ones and these the report is that these are just as good but more refined.

I have the 2014/15 Edges and have not flown the earlier generation, but on doing a brief side-by-side comparison, the canopy does look different.

I have had Drafts and liked them, but felt they were missing something in the performance. I have not been disappointed with the edges - they feel very sharp and accurate. It feels Ozone have spent a long time making the kite as efficient as possible and the result is a very fast & boosty kite. For fast free ride, with great boosting, little else comes close.

Just had the opportunity to check one out on the beach today briefly (visually only unfortunately)
They have changed the fabric to double ripstop nylon. Leading edge still looks the same and I really couldn't see a difference in profile with my 2013 next to it in the same 9 size.
Anyway, I'm set on getting new ones soon. Thanks for the feedback

the 2015 edges are a little more punchier than the 2013 edges . I have a quiver of 7,11,15,19 2013 edges and have a 2015 8m edge . The 8 is closer to my 11 edge than 7 in terms of grunt . It's very powerful for it's size . The new edges seem to handle gusts a little smoother than the 2013 edges .

others who have the 2015 7m edge say the same thing that it is has much more grunt than their 2013 7 .

Holy fucken powerful batman.... 2013 edge is not short on grunt.

I would expect edges to be more freeride friendly from now on in.... since the chrono/R1 is taking the racing focus.

i never said the 2013 edges were not powerful . just the 2015 edges are pretty punchy and if i compare my 7m 2013 in power compared to the 2015 8 the 8 is closer to the 11 in windrange than the 7 . If that makes sense
