Hey! I live here in Cabarete on Kite Beach, but I write for some of the hotels here. People ask this a lot, so I wrote a series on how to get here from the different airports. It will only vary a little depending on where you are staying, but this is a really small town, so just tell your cab driver (you will take a cab at some point no matter what, pretty much) where you are staying and he will get you there. Keep in mind we don't have real addresses, so just tell them name of the hotel. If you are staying in a house, it is good to know the neighborhood, like Callejon, Procab, Encuentro, etc.

Here are the articles. They give maps, options, and tips. Hope you find them useful! See you on the water! I have a bridle pitbull. If you see her, I am near by. http://cabaretecondos.com/category/getting-to-cabarete/

depends which flght is cheaper...Puerto Plata (POP) or Santiago (STI).

From Miami STI is cheaper and one bag for free. POP way more expensive and no bag for free(taxi about 20-25 USD).
Cab from STI to Cabarete is 100 USD one way...share if you can.

At any airport you can jump in a taxi and get safely to Cabarete.

The first time I went to Cabarete I flew into STI as it was a little bit cheaper and the distance didn't look that far on a map. Yep, I vowed to never do that again.

The infrastructure on the island is no where close to what we take for granted in the US (you said you only speak english but I didn't catch what country you're coming from). What might be a 25 minute drive with paved roads turns into a 90 minute hold on for dear life trek cutting through dirt roads in small towns and over the mountains. Both the girlfriend and I got seriously motion sick on our way back.

Compare this to flying into Puerto Plata (POP) which is a short 20 minute taxi ride away. It really is that much easier. Just fly into POP. This is also important in the event that your luggage gets delayed or lost on the way. Picking up your gear from POP is doable. Picking it up from STI, not even sure where to begin.

If you rent a hotel or condo there, ask the management to arrange for transportation.
You can find a cab at the airport, but it's way nicer when they meet you with a name card.
It should be $35 for POP and $100 for STI (one way).
They all know about your "oversized" luggage needs and will send an SUV or a minivan.

If coming from or through US, JFK-POP direct is the best, short sweet and sometimes cheap, plus no Miami Charlotte or Atlanta issues. If that suits your origination...
The view over Bahamas and Turks is nice if you get a window out of Miami though.

I haven't heard of anyone having problems getting from POP to Cabarete by taxi. I have no stats to back it up but I feel like there's a lot more that could go wrong coming from STI. Seriously - it's kind of an adventure and if you're a glutton for motion sickness and near misses, maybe do it once (no really, don't).
