What ever happened to those rotating foot straps?

Did they die a death? where they just a fad?
Do people still use them? if you do are they good?
Where can you get them?, if they are still available?

Not sure about everyone else's beaches but in the UK and my last holiday to Barbados, just about everyone was riding strapless or at least heading in that direction so wouldn't have need for the rotating straps.

The odd person I know that does use straps, usually if the swell is large, doesn't have an issue because they are 'down the line' waveriding and following the kite, front foot 45 deg, back foot 90 deg, so not having an issue with their feet being confined and contorting the straps.

I have one on the front of one of my surfboards. I like it. I wanted to get another one but the guy who was making them no longer sells them.

I guess there just wasn't enough sales to make it worthwhile keeping the business going.

They seem to be most used as a front strap on a surfboard and a pair of straps on a mutant type board, but there was a twin-tip type as well, although the basic rotatable strap could do the same job.

I have one on the forward foot of my Spleene Zone (orginal short version) and I like it a lot. I usually ride this board WITH straps so the rotating strap works very ewll. I have been using it on the Zone for 3-4 years and it has not shown any problems after hard use.

I tried the rotating pad on my 5-10 Firewire and it worked great there too but I usually ride that board WITHOUT straps so I put it back on the Spleene Zone permanently.

It does not add much weight and it makes it really comfortable to ride if you like to adjust rotation of your stance a bit.
