Safety releases for harnesses - why don't they exist? We've all seen the videos of deathlooping kites where the lines are tangled in the spreader hook and neither first release nor second release does a thing. Or when you're being dragged backwards and can't reach the control system's safety release.
A safety release for the harness would help in these situations, so why doesn't it exist?

my feeling is there is just not enough demand. Kiters are just not aware of how useful it would be. Remember the quick release on the chicken loop and the leash on kites to prevent runaways only came about after the notable death of Silke Gorldt in 2002.

There's a few companies doing SB or hook releases... Dynabar and Mystic springs to mind but I could be wrong.

Ocean Rodeo's Session 2.0 harness has a safety release tab built into it.

What I mean with safety release is something that I can activate such that the whole harness slips off my body. Together with whatever is attached/tangled to it.

I've been using this mystic system for a couple of sessions now - the hook becomes detached from the spreader bar - there's a little spring clip that ensures the hook doesn't then disappear to the bottom of the sea and stays attached to the chicken loop…

I agree that this aspect of the sport needs development - put it this way - if dakine / mystic / ion brought out a super-easy detachable harness - I would pay a premium for one...

The Manera harness has a leash release handle. But if your lines get tangled on the hook (see this topic e.g.
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2388816) it does not work. Much better the Mystic solution imo.

The DaKine Nitrous seat harness can be worn such that the rider can just slip out of it... with a little practice, beforehand.
