adding a air compressor to my RV and wondering if anyone out there knows how big/gallon tank i should get. I want one big enough so that the compressor doesn't have run just to fill one kite.

there's a dozen ways to calculate it but my favorite way is just count the number of pumps it takes, a typical dual action air pump is 2 liters per stroke (only if the pump is new of course), so if it takes 50 pumps to fill your kite that's 200 liters of air. at 100 psi that's 20 liters or 5 gallons for inflation for a kite this size. it's cheaper and takes up less room to buy an electric pump.

you know it takes about 30 seconds to pump up a kite by hand, right?

I have a 20gal in the back of my truck with a off road air compressor. I would go with a 10gal minimum unless you have a high flow compressor.
Just for a reference my 20gal tank at 140psi will drop down to 70-80psi with just inflating my 14m RPM. I can inflate 3-5 kites depending on the size.

I guess you would need a 1000L tank if you only brought the tank pressure up to 15 psi or so (can't move air from tank to kite once pressure equalizes, so I am assuming a 50% drop in tank pressure to fill the kite with to the specified volume). But if your compressor is filled to 150 psi or so, I think a 5 gal compressor could fill at least 2 kites.
And why the concern about cycling the compressor? Had a GMC motorhome with air suspension that I ran with a Viair 450C. That compressor has a 100% duty cycle so it could run continuously for extended periods of time, but you would probably want to pre-run the compressor to bump the air receiver tank up to 150 psi or so before starting the fill; it moves less than 2 cfm of air pumping up to 6 or 7 psi.

Don't you worry about it and no need to be sorry. There's always going to be someone around who feels compelled to take a cheap shot, but a lot more really good and helpful people to make up for it.
Have fun and good luck.

Hah... I'll be rigged and ready to go... Not fatigued before you finish running your lines. And have more energy to ride. Pumping kites by hand is a waste of energy.
To each their own but enough with the suck it up buttercup crap. Not helpful and totally off topic.
