Kiting in the Americas / Carribean

Postby kitingman » Tue Jun 02, 2015 1:00 pm

Hi Guys,

I'll be in the west coast USA at the end of June and I'm looking for a good spot nearby to go kiting for a couple of months. Looking for somewhere:

- pretty cheap (1000 USD a month living expenses)
- reliable wind at that time of the year
- walk from hotel to kite area
- nice clean water (preferably clear as well)
- I prefer waves but not essential
- reasonably safe - good vibe
- reasonable internet

Cabarete in Dominican Republic is one place I'm thinking of but does anyone have any other ideas?

Well, nearby as in that side of the world. I am from Australia. You can get some reasonably cheap flights to the Carribean from there. The range is broad but I'm just after a cheap chilled out destination in that large area.

Your not getting good response because Ya say your going to be on the WEST coast
in June/July ; but the Caribbean is off the EAST coast of the USA.

What side of the USA will you be on ?

Are you not planning to ride at all on the West Coast? Seems strange. I am from the other side of the country, but love being on the West Coast during that time of year. That is the time when things are firing out there. If you want clean (cold) waves with strong consistent winds the Central California coast cannot be beat. Scenery is beautiful. SF Bay area is also a great time. And of course the Gorge and Oregon coast are world class. Not necessarilly Pina Coladas and palm trees, but a lot of small kite riding.

West Coast US , Gorge, Oregon coast, Sherman river , San Fran bay are all some
of the best summer riding period. A little cold and expensive. So you would have to
add airfare to/from DR and subtract lodging in DR.

That said, Yes, I do go to DR in the summertime as well. But that is only b/c I
live in FL and our house in the Gorge rents out like crazy so we can't always go
when it is rented in summer.

From west coast end june july Maui would also be a very windy destination but expensive
to stay unless you have some contacts. car is needed.

I prefer the Gorge or DR during summer. Be there in a few days :D

That's like me saying I'm going to be in Perth/Fremantle looking for kiting spots near Sydney... :o

I recommend Corpus Christi or South Padre Island, Texas. Excellent kiting, nice vibe and cheap.
