Puerto Rico - local question

Postby badgb21 » Wed Aug 12, 2015 3:54 pm

I am planning a trip in December to PR staying at the
El San Juan Resort - 6063 Isla Verde Avenue, Carolina, PR 00979

I have a couple of questions:
Is it allowed to kite on the beach at this hotel?
If not, where is the nearest place? Hopefully I can walk there?

Any other info about this spot welcome.

Thanks

Im no local but i stay at esj towers which is right next door. You absolutely cannot ride right in front of the hotel as its a huge wind shadow but You can easily walk to 15 knots kite school/shop a few beaches over. Just walk to the right for about 10 min and you'll see the place. Awesome place with nice wind :)

Hi - Yes Kiting is allowed and routinely done on this beach. You will need to walk down the beach a KM or so to get the right angle at Isla Verde. ESJ Hotel / Intercontinental is right in the wind shadow on a NE wind day. You will see the 15 knots kite school about 1/2 down the beach - walk down there and launch, set up, ride there. Make sure to body drag in the bouy area. Prepare for choppy water - Waves are on the break about 1 KM off shore. Have fun!

by the way... Isla Verde is only decent on ENE, NE wind days. E days is marginal due to wind coming over the land (not good). You want to check out Playa Las Picuas or Playa Yunque Del Mar (right next to each other - both flat water) on E day - About 30 min drive from Isla Verde.

If you have a car I might also recommend checking out Pozuelo in Guayama - very nice location but 1.5 hours drive from San Juan.

Ill be at my place in PR most of Dec and Jan - pm me if you want to meet up and get more details on other kiting spots.

Thanks for the replies and messages.
Much appreciated.

Hopefully there will be enough in the forecast before I go to take my gear!

Dec - April (With March / April being better) Then Mid June - July. Waves are ideal Jan - March
