Help with how i should fix a cracked crazyfly board

Postby JBZ » Wed Sep 16, 2015 1:29 pm

hello all,
I know this topic has been beat to death, I have searched and read a lot of different options to fix boards, but most have been foam cores with fiberglass coating. im not exactly sure what crazyfly uses but I know they have the poplar wood core. I need some help with what product to use and any advise on what (or how to) prep the crack.

I think it is only a surface crack. I literally just noticed it last night after my session. I flexed both tips by hand, the cracked one and the non cracked one and they both seem to have the same amount of flex. I do not think this is anything more then the surface layer but I honestly don't know. do you think the west systems repair kit will work for the Crazyfly boards or should I do something else?

thanks everybody in advance

Dude, that board is done. Toss it in the trash and get a new one.

Maybe... maybe not, cannot say from just a picture. Seeing as you've got the epoxy you might as well give it a go. Personally, I think id open it up a little without causing delam, get as much epoxy in and along the crack and then a few patches of glass over the length of the crack or maybe over the entire deck.

well I hope not because I totally got fucking screwed if that really is my only options! I bought this old board off ikitesurf a couple of weeks ago and yesterday was my first ride. I didn't do shit on it, I didn't hit anything, ride hard, all I did was mow the lawn trying to get the feeling for the board because it is way different then my other board.
this totally blows

That's a totally do-able fix !
Research who is the best with composites, in your aria ; and have them do it.
NO Polyester please.

I recently started using a methacrylate structural adhesive called Partite 7422.
This stuff is magic.. and if you can get hold of it certainly will take care of your crack.
Another one to look for is Crestabond M1-20.

You could try to reinforce the crack and ride it until it breaks. If it does break, you could use the board as a bi-sect style board, with another "board" that bolts on top to supply the new seam strength.

thanks everybody for looking out :)
I will attempt to do it myself, honestly it shouldn't be too hard to accomplish. I have a little experience with making boards, by no means am I any good but I should be able to fix this problem. I will update with pictures once I get it going...probably this weekend.

Ok so here it is. What i did was take my drimel out...grab the router attachment and get down into the core about a 1/2". As you can see i actually cut circles and a couple cross hatch sections out for a little added support. My thought was, was if i cut out some sections that the epoxy had to grab onto it would add some structural support. I used some west systems 105 with the fiber filler and got it to a paste consistancy. Filled, and 24hrs later sanded with my orbital sander for my car, and the wet sanded with an 1000 grit for glass like finish. Actually been thinking about wet sanding the rest of the bottom deck because crazyfly doesnt get a glass like finish on their boards. Anyone know what if any difference that will make?

Before you say anything...yes i know its ugly, but i dont care what it looks like as long as it holds. Well see, ill report back after a few sessions.

By the way aftef some thoughts im pretty sure it was stepped on at my local and thats how this happened but obviously cant confirm. That is the only thing that makes sence as to how this happened. Im baffeled!

I think it looks better the way you did it, almost like a piece of art that fits with the rest of the graphics.
