front pad for surf kiteboard

Postby natx » Mon Sep 21, 2015 5:14 pm

Trying to find a front pad deck as my new board does not come with it. Trying to avoid wax.

Any comments please. Only to put rear deck backwards or front ones really expensive?

I do not have enough sessions to say it's the best thing ever invented but I did cover the mid section and the entire front section of my Sling Shot T-Rex with Versatraction and it's fantastic. I should point out that I have never used wax so can't compare the two.

Hydroturf
I use the "Sheets of Turf 40" x 62" Molded Diamond "B" Stock
Part Number: SHTB" It's super cheap, nicely padded and grippy. I don't like wax because it wears off too fast, 10 minutes into a sesh and I have to reapply. It also doesn't provide any cushion. I've severely dented and even broken through the deck of a board. The pad helps protect it from the constant beating from chop.

@Starsky

Screw that, $52 is stupid money for a front pad. Check my link, same stuff, same pattern even, for $40 for enough to do 4-5 boards.

I don't want to know DIY solutions, that's what I used to do, but if you want a product that fits strapped or strapless boards perfectly without any cutting check out the WMFG pads.

This product was intended specifically for you (board already has back pad and you don't want to ride wax)
http://wmfg.co/products/frontfootkiteboardtraction
It will cover your front foot and the middle area of the board.

We're shipping our first US dealer orders out this week and will have them available for sale on www.wmfg.co in October.

Here's a link to an installation video that will show how easy it is to put these pads on a board:

email info@wmfg.co if you want a list of dealers or have any questions

Hope that helps.

So you claim that somehow your pad fits both a 17 5/8" wide Vader and a 20 1/2" wide Sweet Potato "perfectly"? That's a pretty impressive trick.

That's a custom setup. Firewire surfboards are not typically shipped with either pads or fins.

@Bushfly'r, you're right, there is not one pad that will fit all boards perfectly. My bad.

With the seam down the middle you can spread the pads out and fit wide boards like the Sweat Potatoe.

The guys at Big Winds in the Gorge are using my pads on the Vaders and Vanguards and have been really stoked on the pads.

I'm not crazy about how they look on the Vaders but they will work.

I'm making a new pad with a straighter rail outline and a wider tail that will look better on the Vanguard/Vader style boards and I'll have that in the new year. I'm making this more for aesthetics than fit. The current pads work fine, just don't look as good as I want.

Just figured I'd drop this here. And yes, I know the rear pad is too far out toward the edges of the board.

You can see where the wax is worn on the front pad, that's because I'm regular and tend to stand on the edge more on my right tack. On left tack I stand in the center so I can ride toeside and carve back and forth.

For others with the VG: Next time I'll move the tail pad 1 cm forward and 1-2cm in. And I'll move the front pad ~5-10cm forward. It's OK where it is, but sometimes I slip forward on big jumps.

Your front pad looks pretty cool.

Here's a prototype of the pad I am working on for this style of board.

Finished will have better pattern (this one is wrong by 90 degrees), will be 4 or 6 pieces, definitely with seam in the middle, and a different heel kick. OK, so it will look something like this.
