I am actually glad this is a forum without the thumbs up & down crap. The infantile black & white world view forced onto the users on Facebook et al. sucks IMO. Quality of a post / an argument can not be deduced by summing up all lemmings following a particular point of view.

I am also a fan of anonymous posts. Sure the threshold to express a strong opinion is lower, but self policing is strong on kiteforum, as seen in recent days. If anybody wants to disclose their full name, they can do that. Some do it here, mostly people linked to a kite company. Why don't you BraCuru?

I do not see a point why to hide real identity on forums nowadays.
More and more people do not want to join forums or give up with them as they don't want to talk to anonymous users.

One day facebook will make own forum feature and then days of many of forums including this good one will be counted.
One of the reasons will be known identity of their users... and thumb up ;)

BraCuru is hardly your proper name if you're from Poland. Sounds more like a place in Brasil? So why don't you disclose your name, surname, address, email, mobile number, credit card number, age, picture, pic of your dog, boat, wife, and car?

It's always a big question, what is bettering or a forum...anonymity or using real names.

If majority is up for using their names, then we could change that.

But this the users would need to decide with a poll.

Having a like button and building credibility is a good idea. It sorts out the good posters from the trolls.

Having a dislike button does not work in my opinion. Then groups of people can gang up and constantly dislike certain people.

One of the things that is not so good on the current kiteforum set up is linking a video. You have to remove a dash or add a dot or something out of the web link to make it work most of the time.

In most other forums I use. Its a simple cut and past regardless of dashes or dots.

The new video section will not require an exact link like before.
Much easier to add new video links.

For the forum I still need to test it, will do it this week and let you know.

Seems weird that you are after BraCuru about anonymity. That is his business name (Bracuru Foilboards), so it is much less anonymous than most.

I'm all for the "like" button Toby. Saves people from having to do the +1 post just to agree with what someone said.

You see, I had no idea who or what Bracuru is. Didn't google it, and I just wanted to make a point, not going after him (or her), nor interested in who she or he is. If he presented himself as Bracuru foilboards, I would take he's selling foilboards. That's cool. If he's Bracuru, well, he's just Bracuru isn't he, which is good enough for me.

Hm, hm,

Americanisation on the kiteforum?

I see the kiteforum as an International site. With a huge cultural/demographic/language diversity.
And this is why I like it. Having yet/another/fb/option/here/and/there doesn't cut it for me.

Been on a FB for years, but not any more. The huge effort of posting so much gone in the wind by some software (which is listed on a stock exchange, of course they will enforce whatever).
Sorry, if I knew that this would happened I wouldn't use it in a first place. Many, many friends of mine are gone from a FB.

With all respect there is A REASON why I do not want my real name anywhere.

Nothing is stopping you guys to use your real name/surname. Again, what does someone's name mean if you can't even pronounce it properly :) How we will handle the UTF characters, ie I can write Đuveđ, and you reply "Hi Duved" (assuming not c/p), which is utterly wrong...

Or, like a proper Citizens of the World, we should all change names to Anglo-Saxon ones, so you could pronounce it? C'mon.

Thumbs up/down is a stirring pot for troubles. Does anyone knows what a thumb up/down does to physiological aspects of an 'persona'?
