How long does your bar/lines last?

Postby deniska » Sat Oct 24, 2015 5:37 am

3rd time this year a CORE bar failed me yesterday.
Image

In April, my CORE sensor bar broke a half during a jump:

I borrowed a 1 year old bar from a friend on the same day, and surely, the thick safety line snapped 20 minutes after my bar broke!:

Image

CORE was quick to replace my broken bar with the new, Sensor 2 bar and brand new line set! That was less than 5 months ago.
Yesterday I had to almost poo in my pants again and have a long swim, because the thick "safety" line broke during a jump..
So question to all of you:
Do you believe that the $500 bar setup should last longer than 5 months, with casual use of ~1-2 times per week (optimistically :-) ) ?

Good grief, that speaks terribly of the design or manufacturing of that bar in my mind. Ive had a couple bars bars for years now and used very hard in harsh cold conditions and never broken one.
Trim line's on the other hand i find you do need to replace as needed, but its usually only once a season.
Not knocking any particular gear but that sounds like a very unreliable and and unsafe bar.

CL design and line dimensions are solid. Your line looks frayed where it goes through the CL. Maybe there is some sharp edge inside that through hole? That could eat your line up in no time.

Den,
First - you should post some videos of how you ride - that it-self might answer some questions... especially about splitting that bar in halves...
Second - if you loop your kite a lot - you should pay particular attention to the main line on these self-unswiveling bars. The whole unswiveling thing adds considerably to the "normal wear and tear".

Core is off my list as well now....Please someone comment on who makes the most rugged bar and lines.

Core bars are terribly bad.
Ironically, they advertise them as the "safest bar in the market"

Where the bar broke ; was there corrosion inside , or near
the parts that hold the center together ?

In the Sensor bar, it was plastic only. A small metal pin in the middle did not bear any load. it was there just to untwist the lines..
In the Sensor 2, CORE reinforced it with titanium plates, so it should not break that easily anymore.

Solid post for a first post :D

For the record, I don't own core at all, using self made bars exclusively. But I think their design is good.
