Adding Ozone Edge to quiver... 11m or 13m? Help

Postby skullcandy » Thu Nov 19, 2015 1:00 am

Intermediate rider progressing into advanced - currently riding catalysts and having fun with the smaller sizes (7 & 9m) of those in the surf, hooked tricks, and kite loops - but I wanted to add a kite to my quiver for pure boosting days - ripping off wave lips as ramp going high and gliding. I have a 12 Cat that I will certainly keep for lighter wind surf days but its just not fun for boosting as high as Im desiring (which is expected). Im an Ozone guy so am looking to add an Edge V8 - but im torn down the middle on 11m v 13m. Looking for advice on which size to get... here is some info

- Im 75 KG
- Use OR Mako 150 in surf / chop(mutant style)
- Use 138 TT in light chop / flat
- Use a 155 LiteWave Wing Carbon for Low end days (13-14 kts)

Local Wind conditions are 13-18 knots most days when its on with decent current and chop. I want the extra boost of the 13m but if the 11m can produce similar results I'd prefer the smaller kite. At the same time, I don't want the 11m + 155 Wing to be mowing the lawn on 13/14 kts days. Any advice from riders my size who have ridden both these sizes of Edge?

13-18 knots. Definately the 13m!
I have 13m and 10m edges plus i have owned 2 x 11m edges.

13m is fun 16-22 knots. 13 to 15 is doable on but your not powered.
10m makes me grin hard 19-26 knots

Just tho throw an additional spanner in you works. The Chrono is a fucken monster in light wind. I hardly use my 13 edge any more. I mostly go for the 12m chrono 13-18 knots. The Chrono 2 is super stable and so much fun. I recon yourd be grinning more on a 13 chrono than a 13 edge.

But if you kite well out to sea and want self rescue of an lei or kite in the rain then stay the course with the edge.

Given your conditions and preferred style (and goal for this kite) definitely 13m. You get the advantage of great high end but also have a blast in 12 to 14. This size is perfect for you. Screw the 11 lol

I have the Edge 13m and the 11m. Both great kites but the 11m is a bit more responsive as you'd expect. Be sure you know how to relaunch by pulling on the opposiote front line and then Edges relaunch very well. Without this technique they are poor at it.

I recently got a Chrono 13 and I am having a blast with it.. but I advise the same reservations that plummet mentioned above.

I have lent my 13M Ozone Edge , to a 57Kg girl ; put it on 23M lines in 20-kt winds.
She would jump ; then just sorta stayed there , and wouldn't come down. That was the
2009 model Edge ; had a thinner LE , and was faster.
The girl , "Loved" it !!!

Get the 13M .

I don't need LEi, always on the river :) Is that 2015 12m?

There is only chrono 1 or 2. If your buying a second hand one. It will be a chrono 1. The 2 has only just been release. For general freeriding If you can wait of afford a Chrono 2 then go for it. It is a lot more stable than 1.

13m Edge is great - I use mine in 20-25knots and it boosts nicely, but you have to be very positive to downloop it from height for a soft landing.

That said, the Chrono 2 or Sonic look very tempting (if frikken expensive).
